I recently moved to the town of Mohall, everything seemed to be pleasant, however I was on the main street taking a walk, when an ear splitting siren was triggered that nearly brought me to my knees. It was 12 noon. That evening at 10 pm, it happened again!!I inquired with some long time residents and was told "We have been blowing that siren for many many years. The purpose??,either the citizens can't tell time or they like noise!!My son, who is a scientist, came to visit, and brought along a decibile meter. We went to within a block of the siren and recorded an ear splitting 133 decibles!!!! I contacted the EPA, and they referred me to the North Dakota dept of health. After exchanging information, the health dept sent a letter to the town recommending that the siren only be used for an actual emergency, or "tested" occaisonally. I attended a city council meeting and presented evidence that this noise was causing permanent hearing damage, especially to the children. The siren was cut off, however tne town attorney researched the matter, and found a "loophole" that let the town escape from the noise abatement act, and once again the noise is back.In Mohall, science is ignored, the welfare of the citizens is disregarded, and the noise continues.Ignorance is bliss!!!Sad, but true!!
