THIS says to (us) travelers ...dead town....(I am)trying real hard to reach towns people...what is going on? Changed my plans, wait; to get this weekend for more info... nothing from anyone - WOW!!! What is going on in your town?????????? Be active!!!! Talk is so important..say, great place etc. come to see where to stay, etc. ACTIVE society! Where are you Sistersville- folks? BE Proud...!!!!!!! I grew up in Sistersville and would raise my family there is there was something more to offer from the general area. There are no jobs and it seems as if the area is going downhill quickly. I have often wondered myself why general public is never as welcoming as they should be. Many business-folk have made attempts to bring life to the town, but nobody is warm-hearted enough to welcome any change they may bring. Sistersville seems to be a town of elderly, stuck in their ways and the way the town once thrived. Those times are over, time to explore new ideas and to make honest attempts to bring life to the area. Sohoeye, good luck in your endeavors, as Sistersville is in need of someone that is able to capture the hearts of them all!

To Justme: Thank you so much! I will be coming to your town this weekend (to look at real estate). Tried to book a room at Wells, but phone dead. Can you tell me of another place (even better if it is of an old building as Wells)? My husband and I have a small co. and he is an artist. We are "considering" opening a small gallery to display his art work. Since the prices are so affordable in town, THAT is what will make it possible for new (business)blood to come in (those willing to take the risk). I look forward to hearing from more people. I just graduated high school a few years ago. I don't want to stay in this area and I'm confused about why anyone wants to move here. Jobs are at an all time low, the place smells horrible, and everyone is up in your business. Our little town is stuck up. There is a totally different attitude in Paden City and New Martinsville. Let's face it, the more change is talked about, the less anything gets done. I am tired of this area and I can't wait to get out.

Please go ahead and leave. With an attitude like yours no one will miss you. In fact, why are you still here? Complaining doesn't help...only people can help and you obiviously can't help yourself or the community. I'm sure no one will miss you. Go live in another town and you'll find the same problems.

Still swooning over Sistersville. Times are tough, jobs are few EVERYWHERE! To itsasecret; to adopt the attitude that it is all no good…in Sistersville? I can’t relate to that attitude, so that type of response will not deter my interest in the town, the area or the state. As for no jobs, I faced that years ago, that is why I am self employed. Ask yourself WHAT can I do (to MAKE a living)? I wish you luck and to those who are having a hard time I hope (AND PRAY) things do get better. Question: is there anything going on in Sisterville this weekend? Who would you say is the best person to talk with regarding the (possitive) future for Sistersville?

talk to Dave Fox the town's mayor. He has certainly tried to get things moving. Thanks to him and some community members the walking trail along the river has been completed , new vintage street signs have been erected, and many smaller items that some people have forgotten to mention.

The town is quiet, but also very beautiful and unlike the former post people are caring and friendly.

Don't give up on Sistersville. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. However, it does need help. Responding to your question....contact Dave Fox

Thank you “get real”. From my research it looked like he was the person to talk to. I just wanted to hear it from town folk. I can see from the number of real estate listings change is coming…no matter what. I have not made plans where to stay for the weekend. Anyone have a suggestion ala hotel or bed & breakfast? I was so looking forward to a Wells Hotel type place, but I believe it is closed.

Yes, the Wells Inn is closed. It is a shame. I have watched the Inn pass through many hands growing up, as I was raised right next door. Don't get me wrong, I am all for Sistersville to be revived, but it will take the community to do so. It will take a community to welcome newcomers, as in any small town. Mayor Dave Fox has taken on a tremendous task to bring life back to the small town. Thus far, he has certainly done a wonderful job and I do nothing but wish him all the luck in his task to revive. I remember times when the community had pride, it seems to have all disappeared. I would personally live in that town if it just had more to offer. The closest place to stay is in Paden City, but there are nicer places in New Martinsville. Book quickly, as all the hotels appear to be booked lately due to some drilling going on in Wetzel County. On Charles Street, in Sistersville, there was once upon a time, a bed and breakfast. I am not certain if that place is still exsistant or not. I wish you luck in your endeavors, Sohoeye. Maybe you will find a way to bring back the life the town so desperately needs.

Found Sistersville by accident, looking through listings via computer…you know the process, you enter a price and what you WANT. I entered what I thought was laughable,(like a gambler spinning the roulette wheel) perhaps a listing would come up…right, dream on. Yet there it was…in Sistersville, after which I did the next step and Goggle Earth-ed it. Oh my, what a charming town! We are artists and dared not even dream of enough space to (properly) display (art) work. Also having our own small business complicates (takes up) the use of home/business space too. So you may imagine a perfect building in a most charming town, who can resist. I don’t want to open a gallery to sell work, but my mind is racing with many ideas because the options are there due to the space. So in coming there this weekend, I will be keeping an open mind to possibilities. I am not scared off by news of hard times, rather inspired that I can do something to help. Since it is a small town, I will see (and feel) the results of trying. PERFECT TOWN…Sistersville…filled with possibilities!

If the weather is nice, take a ride on the ferry. They welcome pedestrians to take a ride over to the ohio side and back for a small fee. That is a lot of fun and relaxing as well.

Sistersville I love you. The ole days are alive in the architecture of solid brick structures. Its name itself a suggestion of a place “of family”and its rich concentration of churches a place of God. I rhapsodize here in a vision I hoped for, that is real. Simply captivating was my experience. Even my drive into town was made romantic for me, a dangerous storm dumping 4 inches of blinding rain suddenly parted and the sun came out as if a curtain were drawn open. Being spiritual I saw signs (of welcome) even in the most common place of things and occurrences. I went straight to my potential new home cheering at the sight of it. I walked the area, each time I saw someone I was greeted with a smile and a welcoming hello. Much like where I am currently living, there is the feel of city and country combined along water. You can feel the Ohio River much before you see it. The town and area has that air of slumberous vacationing, as if all the residents are visitors on a holiday enjoying the water. I video taped the old ferry slowly ricocheting the shores, while imprinted in me is the beautiful view of the long straight span of the powerful Ohio River.

With lunch from Dairy Queen, I watched children at play in the park, while I talked about living here with my husband. We walked on the walking path with delight that we would tell our charming real estate agent yes, we will make an offer soon. I have already made a friend in my new neighborhood, we are in touch via e-mail now and she wrote to me the other day (mentioning Sistersville):“There are lots of nice folks in Sistersville (if you get to move here) that you will find very nice and friendly. It is a small town, but quite and safe. All the folks in town will welcome you with open arms.”

Well then, Welcome my friend to this dead ol town. Where you can shoot a cannon down the main drag and never hit a thing. Where the water bill runs 109 dollars even if ya use only 1 gallon. Where the cops let the teens run wild as they speed 75 mph though town. But we do have a new trail that only 1% use, because the other 99% are blogging like us here. Welcome my friends, not only with open arms, but with empty streets and empty stores, and empty festivals. And where is the pride you ask? It ain't about pride, its about money which we have not.so stop talking about it! Move here! What are u waiting on? It's so nice here, maybe the folks will just give u the house.

For the price of the place I'm buying, your right "No way" they are giving it to me. As for the city problems, come to New Jersey and try out the taxes here! People are leaving the east coming to your area saying OPPORTUNITY. I believe things will change/improve, if not people will come together to make it change because they will have to. Angry folks are in New Jersey and every state now. I am looking to make a life in Sistersville and contribute to the town. Business brings business.
