Antioch Fire Chief

I was just wondering what everyone thought of the Antioch Fire Chief, Dennis Volling. Is he a friendly, concerned guy, or could he pretty much careless about the community as a whole? I'd love to hear some Antioch citizen's thoughts in regards to this.

No idea, never met the man. Fire starts, fire is put out. Sounds like the plan is working well.

No need for them to endlessly push the tax hike year after year when the voters have spoken. Not sure if they understand the concept of pissing people off with repeated requests for more money.

Reminds me of a child that won't stop asking for a toy except in this case the toy is full time employment with benefits for all of them, costing the tax payers millions as the recession picks up steam.

Chicago, you should check your facts. What the First Fire District is asking for is way off of what you think. Yes the department is looking for staffing, but not the full time staff that you may be used to in the city. The District is looking to staff the stations it has with part time people around the clock. This will better serve the community and keep operating cost down.(no benefits or overtime) The Fire district has never asked for tax increases until a few years ago. A fire department is an expensive but necessary thing. They have needs and wants, but it’s due to need not greed. You may want to call the fire station and get some facts.

As for the Chief, He is a good guy. He has dedicated his life to the people of Antioch for around 40 years I think. His priority is the firefighters safety and the safety of the community. These are tough times for the department and I think he is doing the best he can with what he has.

The ref. for more tax money has been for the township residents. Which pays about 2/3 of the budget now but about 68% of the calls in 08 were in the village. That is what i was lead to understand!!! When is the vilage people going to pay there fair share!!.Maybe we need to get the truth out,about how the taxs are payed between the village and township residents!!
Lets just make it fare for all residents and maybe we could get the money if it is needed!!!!!!

I don't know why your fishing for this info, but then again it doesn't matter to me. Volling is incompetent and unqualified for the job but he is a "good ol boy" and that is why he is there. He could not properly command a fire scene if his life depended on it.(and unfortunately yours may) I'll give you one of many, many examples of his uncaring nature. Many years ago AFD had an unfortunate accident during a live training exercise. While preparing for the last burn of the day, the current deputy chief was pouring an "unknown liquid" in the house and an explosion occurred injuring 5 of the firefighters. One even had to be airlifted to a hospital. Fortunately all the injuries turned out to be fairly minor. When Volling was called and advised about the accident he refused to leave the golf coarse he was playing on at the fire chief's show in Peoria. The other chiefs I spoke with could not believe this. Every one of the would have gotten back as fast as they could if it has been their firefighters (friends).

Like I said there are many more and I may post them as needed. The larger problem though is that the people that keep him in this position don't seem to care how incompetent and uncaring he is. He's a "good ol boy" and that apparently is all that counts.

You always have nothing good to say about the Fire Det. or anything else for that matter unless it is about the Antioch Rescue Squad, but most people in this town including the elected officals have not got a clue or the staones to do anything about it. I mean really do most of the tax paying citizens of this town think that a 1000.00 dollar or higher bill is normal? Or the fact that they use tax funded fuel in the ambulance that sit all over town at bars and not just one ambulance but 2 or 3 at a time out at Blarneys Island, wow that can not be good for response times if you are dying at 173 and 45, Also the fact that they say we work from the heart and not the wallet, shit with 1000.00 plus dollar bills handed out for service, that's from the heart. Can ou imagine if it was from the wallet instead? How about the fact that the a"all Volunterr squad" hands out stipendes with left over donation and billing money at the end of the year to senior members. How about the fact that they are in a tax funded fire station. So please climb down of the high horse or platform that you spout your stupidity from and be quite for a change, after all you sound like a certain bitter firefighter who couldn't be chief.

Very well said "just a person".....don't forget that the "volunteer" rescue squad uses contract personnel to provide station coverage 24/7, and routinely still cant cover their calls; requiring the surrounding towns to send an ambulance to someone who waited a few god knows how long for the ARS Heros to show up or race back from parts unknown to handle the call, maybe from KC's Cabin or Port of Blarney.

You're funny, clueless, and what you said had nothing to do with my comment or the original question. I've rarely said anything about rescue except that the 2 organizations are separate. You sound like a current firefighter, possibly an officer, who without Volling may not even have a job there. I've said lots of good things about the dedicated firefighters that stick around even with all of the incompetence of the administration and I hope they all live through it. You seem to have a large grudge against the rescue squad. Did they not want you as a member or are you just mad that the fire dept. has not been able to take them over. Next time try to stick to the subject and get your facts straight.
