its more widespread then just Antioch.
I can remember corruption in Fox Lake all the way back to when Armondo was mayor
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20120625/n...
or how about Hamm
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1986-02-15...
and then there are articles like this one
http://newssun.suntimes.com/news/13401623-418...
or this fun historical article
http://www.ipsn.org/news/mob_in_the_burbs.htm
So Fox Lake has a long history of crime and corruption.
But these days they have gotten better at hiding it under the rug.

Yep, and now it's almost time for the elections. Time for all the good taxpayers to vote in all the corrupt crooks again. All the "No-Goods" who claim to serve the people but who really "use" the people and laugh all the way to the bank. Yep, those nice paychecks they get for their worthless job performance. But who's watching them?? No one except the worthless supervisor,(Mr Smouse), and that's no threat, right Ms Marotta? Oh yeah, I've run into her a few times out and about on taxpayer time shopping, running around taking care of personal business or she's sitting at home doing ???? because I see her car in front of her house when it should be at the township office. I'm still trying to figure out what the Highway Commissioner does?? Solution: Save taxpayer money, abolish townships and let the County do their job!

I try my best to vote out the bums or to keep them from getting in.
So far it hasn't worked.
Obama is still President and Bender is still mayor.
Well at least i get another chance to try and vote out Bender.

Agreed, then you get some wanna be trustees who think they know a lot about nothing which includes Mr. Brent Bluthhardt, he even looks crooked. He's running for township trustee in Antioch, well he can keep running in the other direction cause he won't get my vote.

I agree with you. I have not heard positive things about Brent Bluthhardt -- people tell me he is a real slime ball. He definitely would not be good for Antioch government period or anywhere else for that matter. He has ties to the old blood of Antioch politics and we have been there and done that and we don't need any new blood to repeat old business, a vote for him would definitely be putting Antioch on the wrong path (yes, even for township government which is a joke to begin with). So no he won't be getting my vote either. He should just go slither back from whatever rock he came out from under.

Since, despite this belly-aching, there will in fact be an election in April and you will still continue to pay taxes, is there anyone you don't find a slimeball running for office? or anyone you would consider voting for?

That's a good question for EVERY town out here.
The choices usually are a corrupt / incompetent incumbent.
Or an unheard of person who will soon become no better and in some cases even worse then the incumbent.

Its really hard to get an honest, smart, and dedicated person to run for political office.
Even when you do its even harder to get them to win against a corrupt incumbent politician who'll break any legal/moral rule to get elected again.

I would love to see Fox Lake get some GOOD honest politicians.
But it probably won't happen in my lifetime.

I agree 200%!!! I live in Avon Township and they are as corupped as a 3 dollar bill!!
Concerned Taxpayer wrote:
Illinois needs to abolish Township Government due to its waste, ineffectiveness, and constant misuse of our hard-earned dollars. It’s no coincidence that the Trustees, Supervisors, Assessors and Deputy Assessors as well as other Township employees want you to be blind to the business they conduct—or don’t conduct. Our Townships are filled with cronies who gladly take a salary and generous benefits off of your hard-earned dollars and laugh all the way to the bank. And if that’s not enough, township taxes also pay for the salaries and pensions of the township’s elected officials. Next time you get your property tax bill, notice how many different pensions your tax dollars are paying for. Does anyone pay for your pension other than yourself? Well, maybe if you are a government employee or civil service employee. I’d say something’s wrong with this picture. Let those township employees pay for their own pensions! It’s time to put an end to Township government. The Better Government Association had this to say about the corruption and waste within the Township government.“Cronyism, nepotism, patronage...all in the service of taking care of friends and families and campaign contributors," said Andy Shaw, executive director of the Better Government Association. Nepotism is running rampant in our townships along with the “good ole’ boy” mentality of cronyism and that needs to stop.
Here’s the scoop, a township may provide senior and public health services, restrict animals from running at large, provide fire protection, and maintain roads in unincorporated areas. But, as a result, townships levy taxes on their residents to pay for these services—services that could often be efficiently absorbed into the county operations and would likely make delivery more practical and less costly to taxpayers. Roads get plowed and maintained by overlapping municipalities or the state, so why do the township road crews do it too? There’s already a County Assessor, so why have separate Township Assessors and Deputy Assessors? What does a Deputy Assessor do anyway except be there when the Assessor is “out to lunch” or taking care of personal business, but then again the Deputy Assessor is usually “out to lunch” too and/or taking care of personal business on taxpayer time. It’s just another waste of taxpayer dollars. General aid and assistance to the poor is handled by a multitude of government-supported human service agencies. So with all that brought to light, I ask you the all-important question: What exclusive support role do townships perform? Remember, these same services that the Township governments are mandated to do such as property tax assessing, road repair, etc. could easily be transferred to county governments saving thousands of dollars.
Elected officials in township government usually include a supervisor, highway commissioner, assessor, and four trustees who make up the township board. Townships also employ clerks, a deputy assessor, and other support staff. That is, at least, seven salaried elected officials per township, plus salaried department staff. This prompts another question: Is the township delivering services that a city, county or state could not do? The answer is “No.” It’s time to abolish these antiquated relic Townships. By abolishing Townships, tax relief could be felt by everyone including seniors on fixed incomes, average families, and families going through rough times. Townships are a wasteful burden that we definitely don’t need. If you agree, contact your state representative or senator ASAP and let them know how you feel.

I have to ask, if you got rid of the antioch township government, who would do the public works jobs. How long are you willing to wait for service like snow removal, storm clean up or road repair? The money you save in the township tax will just go to the county, but you will have to wait for the service. But the up side is you all will have something new to complain about.
Seriously?? Do you seriously believe that our snow removal system totally depends on the Antioch township Highway Commissioner?? Are you kidding me?? Well let me fill you in: Here is a Daily Herald partial article written 6/1/2011 and I quote, "Mark Ring: Antioch Township is paid $86,946 for 83 miles. There you have it, but remember that was 2 years ago and I'm sure he figures he's worth more than that now. HA! 83 MILES!! That breaks down to $1,048 per mile and he's laughing all the way to the bank. I think you have your concerns all wrong. The taxpayers are totally getting ripped off. Let the County or the Village do those 83 miles, and I'll bet they can maintain the roads for a heck of a lot less!! The townships NEED to GO and that includes ALL of them!
