Illinois State Police Enforcing Traffic in Antioch?

I was a tad bit puzzled this afternoon on Route 173. I understand that state police officers in IL have jurisdiction in the entire state of Illinois, including local municipalities, but I saw a marked state police unit, and two unmarked ISP units running a radar/stop traffic detail on eastbound Route 173 by Body Craft. Are Antioch's police resources that tied up that the ISP is stepping in? Or is ISP feeling the budget crunch that they are running more traffic for income? I have always thought that they should leave the municipalities to do their own policing, but that's just my opinion.

I do agree that everyone SHOULD wear their seatbelts (for safety of course) but is it that pressing of an issue that ISP is running seatbelt "checkpoints" on Route 59? Two "out in force" sightings of ISP in two days? Seems out of ordinary to me. Anyone with information, please fill us in. I don't want to be the one to get the anal-retentive ticket from a trooper because my headlight is aimed 3 degrees too high or my factory window tint is 1 percent too dark. Hell, the stateys would even write a police car or fire truck on their way to an emergency at their own mother's house.

I'm all for safety, but I'm wondering what prompted this?

I think ISP received a grant, I've seen them everywhere the last three days, Grass Lake Road, Gurnee, Hwy 41. Grand Avenue. Groups of 2 and 3's. Beware of Scott's law violations!!!

It's about time someone steps up and saves lives on our streets. Antioch Police Department doesn't pull over cars when they speed? They are over $100,000 down in ticket revenue from the prior Chief of Police. Thank you State Police for doing the job our local police department isn't doing. Thank you State Police for slowing all the truck traffic. God Bless the State Police.

I believe that either the State of Illinois or Lake County in conjunction with the State has mandated "checkpoints" on 173 from Route 41 west to Wilmot Road. This has been going on since early summer (June). I usually see them once a month. Many times around holiday weekends when people are more likely to be out. They are doing more than checking seatbelts. They are random stops for insurance, license stickers, etc. The location of 173 at the train tracks by the High School is a VERY popular place to see them pulled over. Make sure you've got all the updated and proper paperwork, registrations and insurance just in case you get tagged!

Oh I'm more worried if you get a ticket? Shame on you... Let's praise them for lives saved, not if you break the rules by no insurance or not wearing a seat beat? Shame on you.... Do me a favor go to church and learn how to put others before yourself... Shame on you. I will again say God Bless them for slowing the truck traffic down.

As long as it's on the public roadway and not mandatory 'safety' searches of private property.
You know, that piece of paper some old guys made up 200+ years ago that said how a fair government by the people and for the people should be ran.

"Larry" perhaps if the local police department wasn't so busy arresting your and your fellow neighbors kids because you don't raise them right and they walk around town like they own the place and don't have to answer to anyone, including you, then MAYBE they'd have more time for enforcing traffic laws and generating the revenue you're crying about. Of course, if they did that, then you'd complain that they "Have nothing better to do and why aren't they fighting real crime in the village" especially if they were to stop and ticket you for a violation. Then they'd be "Traffic Nazis"
It isn't enough that they have to deal with all the drunks from all the bars in town and all the domestic squabbles from residents, which are only going to increase with the more people who lose their jobs as this economy worsens. But lets tell them to put alllllll that on hold so they can stop cars and write tickets.
Bottom line is, you'd still find a reason to complain.

Hey John, please bring me up to date; I never heard that Antioch had succeeded from the State of Illinois. How dare those Illinois State Police patrol our of their jurisdiction on STATE ROUTE 173, in Illinois. Someone should write the Govenor about this travesty, I'm sure he'll jump right on it.
