The economy is bad. A lot of homes are in foreclosure. I believe we will be in a recession by summer. Antioch should slow down and put on hold building new office centers and stores. Be hopeful that the stores you have will remain open. Try to rent out the empty stores.

Building office centers and a industrial complex will not hurt Antioch , It brings in job's without putting kids in school, adds tax to the village. It's a win-win.

How many office spaces are there at the moment to rent? How many stores? Look at the empty buildings by the Metra. Has Centegra's old building been rented? How about downtown? The economy is bad. Empty buildings for a reason. Want to build more? Build more empty buildings...ok?

Actually, the Democrats are in control of congress with run away spending and an unwillingness to cut taxes!

The war has put us in a deficit, and the democrats have not had control long enough to put us where we are. Check on that.
Personally, I want an independent to run the country. Both republicans and democrats are wrong at this junction in time! I'm sick of their lies to get elected and then doing their own agenda.

Boy we sure see eye to eye on that statement. This crowd can't even get a handle on the illegal immigration problem, but they talk up a bunch of crap. The last two presidents have turned this country into a huge septic tank.

But the point is: Target pulled out because the economy is bad. It will be bad for a long time. To build an office complex and more stores at this time is not a great idea. There are empty buildings in Antioch (and other places) Why would you want to build another one? So that it can be more then half empty like the beautiful strip mall in downtown Antioch? Or like the one across from the Metra, that can't be more then 4 or 5 years old?

Empty buildings in Antioch retail proper have little to do with a new industrial complex east of RT 45. As RT 173 becomes more crowded with traffic (two lanes) truckers delivering and picking up from our downtown industrial are having more problems going to & from.Nothing can be done to save downtown from it's own demise, I have watched downtown for many-many years and it's going the way of all small towns surronded by mall's & big box stores.

The buildings by the Metro are empty because it is a God awful location for a strip mall. The only reason Antioch let it go through was for the extra parking spaces they received for the Depot.

On a side note, that strip mall has never been more full than now. They have added a hobby shop, pediatricians, Dialysis center and have a new physical therapy and development center.

It still is the worst location ever...ever! Just ask the poor folks who opened and closed the Quizno's and Hot dog place. I can't imagine how much they must have lost. OK, the Quizno’s probably should have succeeded in Antioch. The owners wanted to save a few bucks and should have gone to the Wal-Mart area. They would still be in business if they did. How many hot dog places does Antioch really need?

If you want to talk about the best upcoming blight in Antioch, look no further than the PIG strip.

The Piggly strip will succed if the right blend of businesses come in. For example, look at the building that Rustique and Rugans now occupy. This was a horrible sight for as long as I can remember and now it is one of the hottest areas in town. With the right businesses, the location will not matter. Location does make a big impact on success, but ina small town people will find it if it is worth finding.

Get government out of the way and let the free market system fix the situation. Government isn't the answer, people, entrepreneurs are the answer!

Agreed...That said, picking a bad location to put your money is still a losing bet. It doesn't matter who the person is or what their intent was; crap is crap and the PIG spot is crap and has been for a while. Most of the business opened it that area in the last six years has gone under.

True, but thats the beauty of the market place. The market decides who will succeed not government.

Well at the moment the market place will leave a half empty office complex if it does get built.

Don't know for a fact that it's true, but the owner of Lion Video told me he left because the owner jacked his rent and wouldn't negotiate, even with the number of vacant stores.

In the summer, the crowd outside the laundromat scares some folks off. Seen quite a few scary folks hanging around outside having their own parties while waiting on their laundry (and I acknowledge, there isn't much else to do while waiting).

There was a nail salon there, too. True Value. And Sears Hardware where the China Buffet is now.

The real reason we are in trouble? George W. Bush. His "war to bring to justice the people responsible for 9-11 in Iraq" has plunged this country into a recession. Businesses and homeowners across the nation are going under, gas prices are skyrocketing and things are not going to get better any time soon. To blame Larry and Caulfied is just plain stupididity. And yes, when people ask for high rents, others are not going to be able to pay them, especially when there isn't a high volume of people going to the stores.

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Gemini

Mercury will backtrack through your finances over the next few weeks, which isn't a very seasonal thought if you're already well aware that you've overspent this month. Be prepared to do some juggling or to seek expert advice if you're worried about how you're going to cope. You may be kept busy handling inheritance, tax or insurance matters, preparing investment analysis, and allocating funds for the repayment or collection of debts.
