Dunkin Donuts Closing???

Fact or Rumor

This was mentioned to me at the Antioch Fall Fest back on October 10. Many arrived with their Dunkin Donuts coffee in hand. So, I am wondering if anyone else has any information whether this is fact or rumor.

Apparently, the Dunkin Donuts franchise top dogs want Larry to update his facility with the latest and greatest and more expensive equipment. My philosophy is "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" or "you leave something alone if it's working".

What was told to me is that if the head honchos require him to make these changes, Dunkin Donuts may end up closing.

That's why it's called a franchise. The company gets to decide what the franchisee serves, what the place looks like and it conducts business. Why on earth would anyone think the company would allow two locations to remain open once they doubled up at the Walmart? I would think that if they pushed just a bit, they could let the problem solve itself.
Antioch should rally around this business and the person running it. He has done nothing but good for Antioch by donating time and effort at every turn. Once this is written, I would guess the corporate wheels will spin into motion with some form of monetary donation to show that they too have a heart. A quick check with no effort is nothing worth having and a little too late for me.
Stop purchasing from the Walmart location and allow this person to make a living. The price is the same, the menu is the same but it supports those that support Antioch.
This is not a commercial; I only know the person in passing but know what he does and how he lives.
Tell your friends and family to start supporting the people that support you and your community before there are only corporate stores left in the world.

I can't imagine closing this store. I was there this weekend for donuts & such for a family breakfast, and was the 6th person in line. Customers were consistant, the line moved quickly, selections were good and restocked, and the workers cheerful and pleasant.

I've never had nothing but a great experience in this store. There is no comparison to the one in Wal-Mart. And Larry's is unfailing in his support of the community. Hope he stays with us for a long time.

Yeah, and let's not forget Larry's unfailing support of CAP.

In spite of that brain vapor lock, I agree that he deserves to be in business where he is. His place is clean and looks fine. I've never been in to the one at Wal Mart, but I have been to his store many times with never a bad result.

I have never been nor ever will go to Walmart to get a Dunkin Donut coffee fix. I barely even noticed it was there.
I will continue to purchase from the one in town.

I have heard that Double Play may be going under, anyone here anything about that?

Great comments above. I too am a very loyal customer of Larry Monde's Dunkin Donuts ... and I will continue to be.

But, has anyone heard the same thing that was told to me back at the Fall Fest?

Hopefully, not. But, my question wasn't answered.

Also, I would NEVER get my coffee from the Dunkin Donuts at Walmart. I don't ever see customers in that store, it's usually empty and has a cold, stark look to it. The place is way too big for what little furniture and customers sit in it.

I hope Larry stays in business no matter what. His place has history, character, style, the friendliest employees and atmosphere ... a total class act!

Does anyone care anymore? They missed the boat when they initially built it and then fell in the water when they decided to keep it over Double Eagle. Everytime I've been there, the bartenders have no personality nor seem eager to assist the customers. Of course, I've been only to the bar and later in the evenings when the kitchen seems to always be closing and service seems the lousiest. I've also watched a couple of football games there too and there seems to always be something missing. It doesn't surprise me that they could be drowning and not able to swim to shore.

Well, I care, in that it would suck to have that big vacant building sitting there.

I'm ambivalent about them as a restaurant tho. Have eaten there a few times, the food is ok but not great. Prices are on the upper end of moderate, IMO. Anastasia's is probably the closest in menu, and their (Anastasia's) is much better in quality & flavor, similar in price. Again, just my opinion.

It wont close! I know someone who knows the owner very well. They cant afford to put up a huge building like that! The dunkin doughnuts will stay open, settle down...

So Ryan, what are the facts surrounding this rumor? Did the franchise want the owner to find a newer facility for the downtown Dunkin Donuts? You say you know the owner. What is the story? Set the folks straight if you have inside information. All that was told to me is that it may be closing down.

I am glad that Larry is not going to close his Dunkin Donuts. It has that small-town appeal and Antioch just wouldn't wake up without it!

However, I didn't hear the story about a HUGE building. Did they want Larry to build a different Dunkin Donuts? Please explain.

The cash registers are pieces of garbage, the freezers and fridges are all shotty, the tile needs to be redone as do the counter tops, and worst of all is that the building is too small and designed poorly. There is no break room, or even place to sit for the employees and they are crammed behind the counter. There isn't even room in the place for a toaster or microwave for employees let alone customers.

Just went into to Dunkin Donuts and noticed a sign up in the window that it will no longer be a Dunkin Donuts as of February 28, 2010, this Sunday.

It will now be called "StilLarry" or something like that. The girls assured me that the coffee will be the same.

Anyone else got any other info to share?

So you either work or worked there in the past? What poster cares whether or not they have a micowave?

As to the design comments, the guy is trying to make good with what he has, a building designed for a quick in and out ice cream shop. I say he's doing a pretty good job.

If you don't like it, don't go. But if you stop going, you are taking the business away from someone who has supported many, many causes in this area and I for one would rather give my business to him even if you don't have a microwave because he's a good guy and trying to support the community. Heck, he even gives jobs to undeserving mopes like you.

Thank you Larry; keep up the good work and I'll keep giving you my business.
