I belive that the taks test is a great idea. What better way to show how well the students are doing than to test them over all the basic things they learned over the year? I'm in the 11th grade at the moment and sure the taks test may be a little stressful. But School is a stressful place is it not? With all the due dates for projects needing good grades worrying about college it's a stressful time no matter what and i'd like to add the test also helps with dealing with college. If i remember correctly ever since i've reached 9th grade i've been told that i'd behaving mid terms and exams for college and to be ready for them. I dont't see how getting rid of the taks will help with anything or do anything seems like we just have a bunch of whiners here
I think your an idiot for thinking that. So what if u do well. You probally just know how to take a test and dont actually know the ciriculum. I am in the 7th grade and though I get comend every year I costantly watch kids who make straight A's fail every time. I watch teachures get congragulated on how well they teach thier students to take a test intead of how well they teach thier student the ciriculum its self.

Now I hate TAKS test, but i\I have passed everyone. As did my friends and they do not get very good grades on their report cards. I do think TAKS is a good way to measure how well you learned the material over the past months. However, teachers are putting way too much emphasis on it, so it's getting the students nervous and making the students MEMORIZE instead of LEARN the material. Like when a teacher says "this is going to be on the TAKS test" The students would want to memorize the information. Or when teachers give questions straight from the test. A good way to fix the TAKS test is to not put so many topics in one test and for teachers to not make such a big fuss over.

Another thing that bugs me is when someone says "well how are we supposed to remember the entire year?" If you can't remember the material taught to you the past couple months ago, then how the hell did you remember the material taught to you years ago in 3rd 4th 5th etc.?

No this is a good thing. For starters, the state of Tezas does not have a standardized cirriculum, let alone any district, for classes in middle school. Even some high school courses have discrepancies between textbooks and what not. By creating a standardized test that is so basic as to only require the most mediocre of common sense, the state is wasting money every year, Money that accumulates in debt that OUR generation has to pay off in the future.
I'm 10th grader and I understand that there needs to be a standardized limit to the knowledge of people in this state, however this standard can't even be considered to be applicable in the real world. More over, for anyone who fails this test, more embarrasment is due since NOBODY fails this test.
If anything I propose amendments to the test, such as raising the limit, making it tougher for people to pass, while decreasing the graduation requirement to 50% or you can just make the test applicable to people who receive below a standard par of grades throughout the state. Either way, the accumulation of wasted debt and tax money each year is just stupid

I agree that the TAKS test should be abolished because it is very hard on some students.

The taks test is a very exstensive test it requires trimindous studying and preperation. some times students dont pass sometimes they do. I have a 3.8 GPA and i pass everything. we (students)cannot be rewarded for passing. because of self estem. some 5 grader did not pass and everyone got rewarded for passing. she got her fellings hurt of COURSE and told mommy. Mommy filed a complaint and now no more candy treats field trips or anything else rewarding for kids who pass. because of the little girls self esteem. but what about the people who dont pass or the pressuer caused by the test. A child had a nervous breakdown because of the test ONE TEST ONE if you dont pass even if you make a 4.0 GPA you dont advance to the next grade and i think i speak for all the parents whos child has to take the taks test when i type the taks test should end!

I have 2 children in school. I am convinced that the TAKS test and the stress that it causes everyone is detrimental. Yes. We do need some kind of testing. But there should NEVER be so much stress on a student that he/she becomes ill from it. Ridiculous! Is this really the best thing for our kids? The TAKS test, if it is not revised, needs to be done away with altogether. The students daily grades throughout the year should play a much bigger role in determining whether or not the student has mastered the subject. You SHOULD NOT FAIL the grade just because of one test. Again...ridiculous! And I don't understand why ,when so many parents, teachers and students are obviously against the TAKS,do we still have it. Our opinions don't matter? Let all of us homeschool our kids for a bit and see what happens. I have a sneaky suspicion that our opinions WOULD matter when it hit the right people in their pockets.
