I think Texas should get rid of the TAKS Test. I think the test should be gone, because when the kids take the test, they get very tense. Teachers say to not get tense but the kids know that when they take the test it can be very depressing.

What about the kids who passed all there classes and exams and passed all but ONE Taks test?! They should give them something instead of saying they aren't good enough because they didn't pass ONE test. The Taks test was nothing but a very hard test that no most adults can pass themselves. I am one of those students who passed everything but one of the tests from the Taks test. I tried multiple times to pass my math part. Could not do it so now I'm stuck with nothing, nothing to show for my 12 years of school because I didn't pass one section of that test.

I do agree to get rid of TAKS. Cause it gets alot of pressure for students. They need to work on to pass the finals. Thats what really counts.

I am currently a Student, a Senior and i failed three of my taks test, i believe it is very ignorant for one test to determine someones entire education. I believe they should get rid of the taks test!

I belive that the taks test is a great idea. What better way to show how well the students are doing than to test them over all the basic things they learned over the year? I'm in the 11th grade at the moment and sure the taks test may be a little stressful. But School is a stressful place is it not? With all the due dates for projects needing good grades worrying about college it's a stressful time no matter what and i'd like to add the test also helps with dealing with college. If i remember correctly ever since i've reached 9th grade i've been told that i'd behaving mid terms and exams for college and to be ready for them. I dont't see how getting rid of the taks will help with anything or do anything seems like we just have a bunch of whiners here

Do you not understand that if they get rid of TAKS they will just replace it with another test? TAKS is not the enemy. Ignorance is the enemy. The TAKS test only assess "minimum skills" for that level. To those complaining because the test is boring: welcome to real life! You dont always get to do the fun stuff. Any child who is college bound might as well get used to it. So instead of whining, why dont you go study!

The TAKS should be eliminated and no test should be taken because all school year all they teach is TAKS TAKS TAKS TAKS TAKS!!! They have no time for other subjects because thats all it is! TAKS!!! We don't want to grow up with only TAKS knowledge in our heads. We want to know different things not just TAKS!!!

Dude, what is wrong with you. TAKS sucks.. i would much rather perfer to take other tests other than TAKS. theirs no need for it. it seems as if students learn and only learn about TAKS. but that doesnt prepare students for the world. it only prepares them for their 17th year alive and junior year in high school. once you've done it, whats next? yah, college is.. but what information will you take with you to it? Can anyone look at these comments? Everyone who complained about the TAKS test being too hard or anyone who claimed they failed a section has an error in their comment. Whether it be a grammar error or a spelling error.
I'm writing a speech on abolishing the TAKS test, for my college speech class, only my reasoning is not that it is too hard or that the test is just "Stupid", NOR is it because it stresses the children out. If I were to take a side on that comment I would say it prepares them for testing situations such as the SAT or a graduate level exam such as the LSAT or the MCAT.
I received 3 commended achievements and another A on my tests, and was merely an A, B, C student. I believe the reasoning on this was that I was an Advanced Placement student, so my teachers did not teach to the test.
Before we abolish the TAKS test, maybe we should find some better teachers and some parents who teach their children to value their education.

I think they should get rid of taks, cause all it does is depress the students, some do good in all their classes all year, and cause of this test some don't do good. some tests they give them like the math for 8th grade the test had some proplems they never covered all year so they didn't know what to do!! and now they are making it to promote to the next grade that is not fair

I took the time to read other comments and noticed that some people believe that the TAKS is a good thing. Thats great if you enjoy taking the TAKS and score highly on the exam and yes you learn how to take the SAT, ACT, etc. but what are you LEARNING! I can honestly tell you that I got absolutely nothing out of the TAKS except for stress and no sleep. I am a sophmore in college and I did pass the TAKS with no problems. Although, I believe that if the teachers could spend more time on the curriculum and less time teaching us how to take a test that just maybe I would actually know something in college instead of knowing how to memorize something long enough to get through another test.

I belive that the taks is only making our lives harder, & it is waisting our school time for preperation. Well in my opinion i am guesing that they should get rid of it, and just start making school like back then, when we only had to pass our clases and stuff like that. Hey atleast we are going to have to pass something AKA "our calses"!!!!
