Gilbert Guillen should be elected District 8 Representative. He is by far the most qualified. He has a lot more common sense than Beto O'Rourke and all the other so called "Progressives." I'm very glad he is in the running.

We the people now have a chance to change the course of the city by electing new members to City Council and to the school board. All the incumbents Ann Morgan Lily and Mr. Eddie Holguin should be thrown off with a resounding smack in the face and David Dodge Alfredo Borrego and Patricia Huges tossed from the EPISD school board. The voters in the Ysleta School district should toss Martha Reyes off as she is heavily influenced by her relative, Silvestre Reyes (a socialist democrat who has failed to enforce the federal laws). IT is time for the El PAso Times to do a background on each of the people running for office and post it on the front page of section B for the next three weeks to inform the voters of not only who they are but if they are really qualified for the position they are running for in the elections. So that you are aware, I am not a republican or a democrat but I do hate the extreme of both parties.

What a bunch of losers.... I just hope that Ann Morgan Lilly gets the boot. This old hag is anti Business, anti property owner and anti business...
Gilbert Guillen and Lisa Turner, are you kidding ???
The worst of the worst is the Bible thumping hypocrite Sonia
Brown. This broad just can't get enough attention. She would break her neck to get in front of a camera.
Too bad these clowns might be running our city with millions of dollars to spend. Now that's a scary thought ..

I would almost pay admission to see Lyda and Sonia both on the Council. Nothing would get accomplished but the arguing back and forth would be funny if it weren't vapid. IMO

It would be interesting. Sonia Brown (a whack job without a degree) would be quoting antiquated Biblical laws, events and philosophy from 2000 years ago, and Lydia (a highly respected lawyer and defender of children / families) would be articulating actual modern law. To bad Lyda is going to slaughter Manny Hinojosa when he starts in on “Family Values”. Manny has had 2 wives; he didn’t pay his child support to his first wife (a judge had to intervene) and was charged with assaulting his second wife. If that is what “the Man” ny Hinojosa is proud of, he should rethink his stance on family values!

I repeat, the holy rollers always have skeletons in their closets!!!!! They are hypocrites and should be exposed. The ones tha preach family values don't know what the heck they are talking about. Do not vote them in, they will try to convert everyone to their sick ideals! I am a religious person, not a religious fanatic, we don't need the Browns or Hinojosa types spreading their hate!

If I'm not mistaken, the domestic partner issue in El Paso has already been decided by a federal district court, which decided that the City had to extend health benefits to gays, a decision I disagree with, but until the US Supreme Court decides this issue, one we have to live with. The time for the City to appeal this decision will have long passed by the time elections have been held.

Cathy: I don't think it is settled, litigation going on still, and after all it's on the May ballot, but I could be wrong

CATHY: the federal court stated that they would hand down a decision in May.(Probably about a week after the vote) When they do the City Council will not have a thing to say about it as it will be a federal decision the voters can't fight yet.

Still we the voters need to have the Times get the back grounds on all the candidates except the incumbents whom we all know. I really hope that we kick the incumbents out and start with a bunch of moderates on the council who will present controversial ideas to the voters instead of trying to make up our minds for us.

Maybe the Times can do an article clarifying the status of the court case. If the City is a party to the litigation, it would have standing to appeal an adverse district court decision, if City Council voted to do so. Knowing the candidates's position on this issue is important.

Grow up. Why is any of this relevant? Who cares? Does it make her any better or any worse of a candidate? NO!

There would be time after the elections as the present council is still seated until July. They could cause more damage if the decision is for the voters and against the city and police department's Municipal Association. Maybe they could amend the ordinance before then to just include the retirees who are not employed.

You are so ignorant and clueless, it is scary. Most of the council members care about El Paso and its citizens. Have you ever tried having a discussion with one of them? Communication equals understanding.

Why does this discussion regarding the City Council races appear in the list of El Paso Times Forum topics as "California Man Missing Near Lordsburg"?

If this topic would carry the correct article title in the list, there would be a lot more comments in the discussion.

The same shrill voice of the progressive socialist backing a council whom will not allow dissent for more than a couple of minutes in chambers before being asked to leave or sit down by Mayor Crook. Logical argument with the council is impossible and the only time they will talk with you after calling their office is if you are on their side. Too bad you are their campaign manager and voice of derision.
