HEY i have a pit bull i am 13 and and you no what i hate that when you watch shows on tv and they talk about pit bulls they make them seem like the worst thing ever but i raied my pit bull all by my self and he sleeps with me he loves baths and he is just so love abul and is as sweet as can be and you all think i am saying this cause i have one well thats sad cause my dog would pretect me if i need him to cause he nose i will pretect him and other pit bulls cause just because there breed dosen't maen thats they are meen so back of cause i love all animals and the pitt bull is the best dog i have ever had and yes i no that they have attacked people but so have other dogs

I have owned a poodle, she bit people alot. I owned a Doberman , he was very aggresive. My pitbull mix is by FAR THE BEST dog I have ever owned. She recievec an honorable mention from the ARP of Pacific Grove California.
In fact I rescued this dog after the mawling of the San Francisco postal worker. People that sterotype and judge are talking sh--.
People are meaner than most pitbulls.
I have an idea!! Put people to sleep that kill people! Better yet William Make the owners liable for their actions.

I don't think this womans sister was a threat to her in any way. How are Pit Bulls smart? That wasn't too smart.

most people who want to ban pitts and other bully breeds have never even been around one. i have a pitbull who is 13 months old(male) and an american staffordshire terrier(7 yesrs old)(which is extremely closely related to pitts and often mistaken for a pit) and if anyone met my dogs, they would have their mind changed immeidately about the so called natural viscious behavior of these dogs. mine are goofy clowns who crave attention and love. the only thing they will attack is a steak!

I just rescue a doberman/pitt mix puppy.she is 40 days old now.but I see that she is really agressive,but very very intelligent and lovefull,but she gets angry lots of things and although she is 40 days old she bites people around me.I don't know what to do... :((

a while back i listed a dozen or so other breed maulings and killings..guess what? no one called for them to be banned..i also listed a good dozen good stories about pits..no response...people who want them banned go just by what the news tells them and they dont do any research of their own....so their opinion is one of ignorance.

i own a pit and she is very good with my young children,she is playful and smart,and protective.Everyone is entitlied to thier opinions'but i live in a upscale neighboerhood and not a trailer park.we show her love and we are firm with her when she needs it. she only chews her toys and not my furniture,loves to lick my 5month olds little feey and they snuggle a lot.she loves everyone that come in our home but will let you know not to loiter outside my house.

You sound like a typical Pit Bull owner...many of the people you claim are "weak" will just shoot your attack Pit or give it bad hamburger meat.
The public should not have to worry about your Pit...you need to.

There are literally MILLIONs of pits out there. There are literally millions of pits who are great dogs. I am an accidental convert, felt the exact same way and verbalized it! A lot of anger can be built by sensationalist media. I do understand that pits are powerful & can do damage, as can many other dogs. As long as people do not fix their dogs; as long as people chain their dogs; as long as people fail to socialize their dogs, attacks will continue. Did the dog have rabies? That never came out. At least 1 of the 3 factors present in over 90% of fatal dog attacks have always been the same.(1-non-neutered; 1-method of containment; 3-intended use of the dog (resident vs family dog). These factors can be found to be 1 or more in existence when there is a fatal attack. Sometimes the media's headline will be "family dog," when in fact it was a yard dog, etc, etc. I'm so very glad people are starting to be held responsible for the actions of their dogs. I love my lil brown dog; by far and away the best dog I've ever had!

Again kellyrn..I agree with a lot of what you say but I do want to mention that you and most Pit Bull owners have the wrong idea about the media and their so-called "sensational" reporting of Pit Bull attacks.
Newspapers do not make a living reporting Pit Bull attacks...they do not. Television either.
Reporters and editors are not sitting around waiting to report these "mostly" preventable attacks.
They report many attacks because of the level of damage and threat these animals cause.
The woman who lost her chihuahua and was injured this week by two Pits was NOT reported by all local media. I can assure you that all were well aware of the attack. I couldn't find a mention in the local paper the day after (maybe I missed it).
And I also want to mention that because of my "search survey" about this attack, I came across "another" Pit Bull attack in northwest Jax that was "only" reported, based on by search, on the WJXT4 website.
Two Pit Bulls attacked and killed "TWO" dogs in Northwest Jax. around 7PM on Weds 6-11-08.
Both Pits are now in the dog pound. I haven't seen this reported anywhere else.
I can assure you that every news media outlet in town is aware of this attack.
So there has been at least "three" dogs killed in Jax this week by Pit Bulls and one women injured by a Pit, with very little media interest.
If someone is killed by ANY dog, it will be reported.

THERE IS ALMOST NARY A FATAL DOG ATTACK IN THE US IN THE LAST OVER 40 YEARS BY A NEUTERED OR SPAYED ANIMAL!!! Hello!!! Chained, isolated dogs becoming less & less mentally stable, not fixed, not inside the house & loved by their humans pose the danger. Loose dog bites someone? Assault charges on the owner to follow! Also, hardheaded William, general (non breed-specific) dangerous dog ordinances, strict enforcement of leash laws, and strong incentives for inexpensive spay/neuter clinics, especially in the inner cities, are what protect our citizens from dangerous dogs. Forfeiture of the right to own a pet should follow a severe or multiple offender. Making it a felony not only to stage a dogfight, but to ATTEND a dogfight is also a needed step. Get serious with the criminal, criminalize the behavior, and get these dogs out of their abject and pitiable circumstances. I would personally rather someone euthanize me than to keep me alive on a chain with barely if at all adequate food, water, and shelter, and no kind words, soft sleeping spot, or love of any kind. It breaks my heart that dogs are treated this way, snap, hurt or kill a child, then MY civil rights and my awesome, beloved pet is endangered by stupidity and cruelty. And...Do you know something else? Almost all terrier breeds have a strong prey drive. While 10's of thousands of pits have cats, dogs or other pets in their families, they still can have animal aggression. This does not equate to human aggression. I invite you to look at the multitudes of experts out there who write about breed characteristics. The breed characteristic of a pit bull is to be absolutely friendly to people and very people oriented. It is also, according to neutral description of the breed known to be EXCELLENT with children. Most dog breeds to not have that description. The fierce loyalty that pit bulls have to their breed is repaid many times over by their loyalty to us. There is no better, more stable family dog when raised as "one of the pack." The people who love the breed so much who abhor the cruelty that they suffer by POS losers are not looking for machismo (their ego is not swinging from their dogs' testicles); they are not criminals; they are not on the fringes of society. Often they are accidental converts like myself. I doubt you like dogs much, but if you did, do yourself a favor & meet one at your local dog shelter & see for yourself.

I have digressed; care should be taken when meeting unknown dogs. No dog should be loose in the neighborhood to launch an attack on another's dog. These are also extremely intelligent & crafty dogs, so most fences will not contain them. They can climb, jump, dig, etc their way wout of fences without a hitch. They should be kept inside the house where they belong. That is where most responsible pit owners keep their dogs.

Pit Bull owners should keep their dogs inside their home??? Are you kidding?
That in itself is cruel...it's wrong to make an outside dog live inside. Larger dogs love the outdoors and like to come in when the weather turns bad.
Kelly, it seems your heart is in the right place but I just disagree with you on Pit Bulls and children. Bad mix.
I looked at the website “badrap.org” that you pointed out. When I saw the reference to the
the organization "American Temperament Test Society" website, that confirmed to me that the "badrap" website is a waste. This "so called" testing institutes "research" is grossly flawed. They do not use basic fundamentally sound research procedures.
That given...this entire website has little purpose other than to make Pit Bull owners feel better about their choices.
I will say, that if we have to have Pit Bulls in this world, I wish more owners were like you.
