bicycles,my grandsons was taken at a game on the in. side awhile back and i've noticed at the grocery store that a lady posted a plea for her childrens bikes to be returned. please take pictures of your bikes and record serial numbers as well, it may help in getting your bike back. this seems to be an ongoing problem. we need to watch out for our neighbors and report anything that looks supicious.something needs to be done about the rash of bicycle thefts in u.c.

Thank you for the info. I did not know this was going on. Has it been in the paper? This needs to get out to every resident.

Several bikes are being abandoned at area apartment complexes. One of the bikes on the Sav-a-Lot bulletin was recovered by Lincolndale apts yesterday

as far as i know it hasn't been in the newapaper, but i only buy one ever now and again. i'm glad that one child was lucky enough to get their bike back. my grandsons bike was taken over 2mos. ago and we have yet to hear anything about it. but i'm still looking for it.and i have all the info i need to identify his bike. so like i said record serial and model nos. and take pictures of your bikes. i think you can register bikes with the police dept. also. worth checking into..

I spoke with one of the officers and he was telling me that it is a bit of a problem. He said everyone is buying there bikes at wal-mart and everyones bikes is the same as the next guy's. Which makes it hard to identify your specific bike. You can write down the serial number an it is recorded in a book at the city building.

we have had 2 bikes stolen from our property, we found out who took the last bike, but the kid didn't get into any trouble over it, he did however return the bike, it was hard to ride again...seeing how it was in 2 pieces. That was last summer, since then, I make sure to keep all papers that come with the bike, and make sure to register the serial #, I didn't the first time around, and the kid who took our bike, knew enough to scratch the # out, I think he knew what he was doing.

Maybe try taking a center punch and make a design somewhere on the bike that is unique to you. If the mark is deep enough it would take several coats of paint to cover it. You could then report the design and the thief would not think anything of it.

I got a brilliant idea, if you dont want your huffy to get jacked by the local hoodlums why not try locking it up? do you leave your car unlocked with the keys in it?

Too easy

Locking up a bike????? That makes too much sense and would be too easy. Someone might have to make an effort to do something for themselves instead of blaming everyone else for their stupidity and problems. It would mean taking responsibility for one's actions.
