Fort Meade: Army to renovate four barracks

The Army will spend $52 million renovating four Korean War-era barracks at Fort Meade, officials at the military post in Anne Arundel County said this week.

This is preposterous!$52M for four barracks? If they were built for 166 trainees, under today's conditions they would house 40-50 troops each, so that's a $52M for a total of 160-200 troops, so it's 1/4M per person. You can probably buy a single-family house for that amount in Ann Arundel County. Is this total corruption, or typical egregious Army waste? And two years to complete??? Silly!

Nope, they still house over 100 troops each, NOT 40-50 so your math is off a bit. I know because I work at the school house and pull duty at one of the barracks. Currently conditions are unsanitary and unhealthy. Should it cost 52 million? I don't know, but it needs to be taken care of.

The renovation includes completely new water, electrical, and sewer lines. refurbishment to removed Abestos from the buildings as per the EPA, new toilets, sinks, hardware, etc. everything that goes into completely renovating the buildings. So, if you look at it as 52 Million dollars for four buildings, we're talking roughly 12.5 million dollars per building. For the sake or arguement, let's say 100 troops per building. So, that would come out to 125K per person. In Ann Arundel county, you can't buy a decent house for 125k for a single family house; even in the dangerous neighborhoods....
