Meade barracks 'unfit'

At the Air Force Student Detachment barracks at Fort Meade, almost every room contains mold.

Not surprised that the Army put the Air Force in the crap hole.

In 66, when I was in basic training, the barracks I was in was built for WW2 German POW's. Concrete floors, no air conditioning, no running water in the barracks.

Heat came from a boiler for each 48 man barracks which the trainees had to shovel the coal and stand fire watch over night.

OPP that was the days of sub minimal pay for G.I.'s not the all volunteer army with 5-10 g sign up bonuses.

There were new barracks built for the students several years ago, large three story structures, with all the latest amenities. The question is, why are they putting these kids in antiquated bldgs, have they increased the class sizes so much that they don't have the space??? Ft. Meade is the headquarters for the Defense Information School. Training troops in all services on all aspects of media use (tv interview, newspaper, camerman, combat photography and regula etc), they also train allied troops.

This is obviously not a good situation for the military. I am a retired soldier, who would not want any soldier, sailor, airman, or marine to have to live in those conditions. We should do a better job of military fiscal management to ensure the troops can have decent living arrangements. I am sure the top brass don't live in those types of environments.This is a shame on the U.S. government and our military in particular.

Truly a national disgrace and another indignation upon the backbone of our military. That sadly would have gone unnoticed without the YouTube expose'.

DUH - Give the enlisted members a housing allowance and permit them to live in the local community. Good for them, the economy, and much less expensive in the long term than upgrading government housing.

Mike...they cant controll you in the barracks...imagine the enlisted singles in off post housing.

The Army barracks also contain mold. Two rooms on my floor are condemned. The Marines also live in a building that is not up to standards.

What's to imagine? Is it the fact that they're single, or enlisted that you have trouble with? They are 18+ year old men and women with full-time jobs.
