I am a Clopton graduate and thought it was a great district when I attended. I was told that there is a big bullying problem-especially girl bullies. I know of 3 families that have moved out of the district in the last 2 years b/c their daughters were bullied so bad. That's not supposed to happen anywhere--especially in a small school like Clopton.
Not to mention I hear the school is pretty much run by a bunch of secretaries and the cafeteria manager??? what has happened to clopton? where are the administrators? Glad my kid goes to Bowling Green!

I totally agree with you. I feel bad for the many nice families that really care about that district. It has gone down hill since the days of Miller and Singer administration. Wow, they have a poor, poor excuse for a superintendent. The board should be able to see through his flat out lies and manipulating behavior. Really any district that changes supt. every two years is asking for trouble.
I have heard a little about the bullying as well, so hopefully they will deal with that problem.

Well, bulllying is a problem in a lot of schools, but you would think a small distict like Clopton could do a better job of handling that situation.
Is the supt. leaving this year?? I sure hope so. He is a very good liar and it will probably catch up with him. It is hard to keep up with lies, esp when you can't remember from one lie to the next. There are many good people that work there and they are going through a hard time with the Holcim situation.
I find it interesting that they have not cut any sports like other districts in the area are doing. I read that they expect booster clubs to pick up some of that expense, But really, I wish academics were important to this district.

Yes, the Holcim situation is causing a lot of problems. You are correct-no sports have been cut that I am aware of. I heard they are planning on keeping junior high sports! That would be a great place to save some $$. I wish some good people would run for the school board. Just FYI if you live in the Clopton district-don't trust Tom Beauchamp or George Ricks. They are holier than though back stabbers and very much have an agenda. And don't even get me started on the principal. They will never get rid of Larry because he was their basketball star but he has no backbone! The school has definitely gone down hill since the Miller/Singer administrations. Can I say again how glad I am that my kid goes to Bowling Green?!!!

I did not know a lot about the school board members, except that they do not seem to have minds of their own. Whatever the supt. says, nearly all of them agree with. I do know that the supt. has flat out lied to board members about situations and rather than ask people affected, the board believes the supt, and because of that some rather poor decisions are being made that will hurt the district. Maybe they will end up with new board members that care about the school. This would be an awful time to be on that board, a lot of tough financial decisions, and a job I would not want.
I hear 7 very good teachers are retiring this year. And some retirements and resignations at the tech center too. I wonder if they will consider making an administrative position as a part time job. I only think it would be wise, since adm. are paid more, and they already have one adm. that is a coach. So I would think whoever replaces Mr. Harvey as elem. principal could also be part-time doing another job of some sort. It seems to work in the high school.

Hey, Boo Clopton, you will be happy to know Clopton is cutting junior high cheerleading and not replacing the high school english teacher who is retiring. And tmam, no the elem principal won't be part-time even though I agree w/ you that it could and should be. As I understand it, the teacher who is filling that position isn't even certified. Of course, she's the basketball coach's wife so they had to find a place for her. When is the last time the Clopton boys have had a winning record by the way? Don't know what kind of a coach he is but if you judge a book by its cover, I am guessing not a very good one.

Hey, Hey Beckster....The b-ball coach is just fine, he has doubled his win total every year I think, 07-08, 1 Win, 08-09, 2 Wins, and 09-10 4 Wins....It takes time to build a program. I think the coach is a well rounded coach.

Clopton in its hay day could compete and/or dominate its confrence. I believe they won some 50 confrence games in a row. Maybe the boys could scrimmage the girls for practice. They went to the final four some 8 years in a row.

Boo Clopton...your bobcats got our great girls coach...and what mess the school board has become, it like congress will get a lot of new faces next election.

Well, from what has been said, many Clopton people, have been treated poorly by the current adminstration, namely poor treatment and bold faced lies by the Superintendent. Hope Mr. Harvey can turn things around. I have heard they really made a mess of 5th and 6th grade by moving good teachers around. Those students are getting the bad end of the deal there. I was just curious if they have gotten the AD's future wife back in the district. Heard that was their plan. When the politics at Clopton get going, they usually make a mess of things, but in the end it will all become very clear as to who and why they hire certain people. Have heard teachers in the district that are interested in moving to new positions are not allowed to . I know for a fact the supt. told a teacher that she would not be able to move into a new position, because another person in the district was going to take it. Ended up it was a flat out lie by the one and only--Robertson. He needs to move on, before CLopton has more trouble than just financial issues due to Holcim closing. I hope CLopton does not expect a lot of sympathy, they are finally going to see what other schools with little tax base have dealt with for years.
Beckster--I did not know that the new elem principal did not have the credentials to be a principal. Why does the school board let that happen. I have heard a number of CLopton families are very unhappy with all the politics and way of hiring. But you hide and watch, I bet soon it will be announced that R.D. is going to be teaching in CLopton. Believe she has been in B.G. for one year, but I know the supt. wants her in his district really bad.

Bball Luver-don't know about the girls coach being great. don't know much about him.
Clopton sounds like a real joke right now. I know of yet another family moving out of the district. I don't think I would send my dog there!

Boo Clopton things are the same as they were in the Miller and Singer days. Nothing gets done about the bullies now and it didn't back then.

My biggest complaint about Clopton always has been all the married couples working out there. If you have a problem with a teacher and need to talk to the pricipal you should not have to be talking to the teachers husband. Was the case in the elementary school for years and in the high school a few years back. Also don't think school board members spouses should be working out there.

I would have to say that my dealings with the former adminstrators (Miller and Singer) had always been positive (although my interactions were not as a parent). You are right that there are a lot of married couples in the district, and I don't think that will ever change esp. in a small town, that is just the way it is.

Is Clopton really going to hire a second business teacher?? I had heard that a while back. Don't know if it will really happen. Seems odd that they would make cuts (FACS, Music, Counselor etc) and then add a business teacher!! They have had one business teacher for years, why would they all of a suddent need 2?? Sounds like Clopton to make cuts and then add a busineess teacher when they don't need one. The kids from Clopton can go to that Technical center. I am pretty sure they offer two different business or computer clasesses thre. So, the students at Clopton can choose from about 4 different bussiness or cmoputer classses, and THEN they reduce to one counselor. That is crazy, but typical of Clopton.

Concerned parent: I think people need to pray more that God does not judge them for the slanderous acts and comments they make on public websites such as this one.

If you are truly worried about Copton school district, then you need to put your concerns in a public paper and admit who you are, not hide behind some website. I know that like the atheist, these comments are from less than 3% of this school. So get a grip on reality and get on with your life, you will be much happier. The other 97% are in support of our school and know that the administration and school board are working very hard to create the best learning environment for our children that is possible considering the upset from Holcim. This school will succeed inspite of people like you. Clopton is by far the best school district in Pike County. If you are so unhappy about it, move. We know you must have family here or you wouldn't be putting such garbage out.

Concerned Parent: I agree with you that the school board and adminstrators are working hard--only not at what they ought to be. It amazes me that patrons don't question the fact that the A.D. gets a teachers salary, plus numerous stipends for his various extra duty activities, yet he only tought ONE health class this past year. Teaching one class does not qualify a person to earn a teaachers salary. I do think next year he will be teaching two classes, so I guess he deserves the teachers salary now!? Oh yeah he is dean of students--another made up job, that really requires nothing to be done. It does not make sense to me that a school the size of Clopton, with all their financial difficulties, would keep such a position-dean of students!! Come on, surely you are laughing about that.
I hope Mr. Harvey can turn things around--and fix what Roberson and the school board have made a mess of. I might be hiding behind a website, but so are you. I will be looking in the paper for your letter to the editor, about the 97% support. Nothing I have said is garbage--the only garbage I know of in the district is the school board and supt-Robertson.

Well now that Terry robertson is gone, I guess you are happy, sometimes people wish for things and when it happens, they find out it doesn't make a difference. Now would be a good time to pull together and help our school, not cause more problems by stirring up garbage about the Clopton staff and community. We have a good school and I for one will stand by it. We have put our children through there and now our grandchildren are there. Try to be positive and help us pull together to make things better for our kids. Complaining is not helping. We need to show good citizenship for our kids. Slanderous gossip wether you think its factual or not is not a healthy way to show our kids how to support our schools./

Hey concerned parent - learn to spell !!! and please don't start with the religious crap. FREEDOM of religion, remember ??? There is no positive here, this is the most vindictive, hateful town I have ever seen. What we really need are more "artists" here. NOT !!!

I have a few more things to say before I'm through. The Singer's and the Miller's were always about the have's and have not's. The "clique's" kids never got in trouble, so sad to bad for the other kids..
As for the tax base to keep our school good. Who do you think shut down Holcim ??? Think about it, could it be the same people that have put million's into a park that floods and could care less about the rest. They want their own perfect place - kayaks and parties, art and beauty. Not a cement plant, that dirties their pretty picture. Not a place for the have not's !!! They LOVE this town they just want the average Joe people to go away. I await the day when all of their tax credits and freebies expire, maybe we will get a few stores that actually sell necessities, and not have to wait on taxes paid for a **** cup of coffee, or a piece of ART !!!

Well it appears that you need to check your own spelling, and it also appears you have a heart full of hate. And religion is only crap when practiced by people like you who spread hate and discord every where you go. I fail to see how our school has anything to do with parks that flood and kayaks and parties, art and beauty. We would all have loved to had Holcim stay open. Our families depended on that company for their own incomes too. But taking it out on certain groups is not the answer to your problems. I will pray for you to recover from your anger attacks. Oh by the way, don't you mean "Freedom of Speach", after all, religion was not mentioned in that last comment. Also, you might want to be careful with using peoples name. You may be getting your self into trouble.

No, I mean't freedom of religion. SPEECH !!! The names mentioned were only comments made to the previous bloggers. Can we move the art deco kiln at the plant down to the million dollar park anytime soon ???

Whenever your ready to understand why there is no $$$ to get qualified people in the school to handle a simple problem like fifth grade bullying ...
Here is what you might do. Get on your bike and ride along your bike path that is no more than a shoulder for a highway, what is it called scenic, dixie, great river road,??? Stop and see the brick chimneys and the art kiln and then return to the concrete park on the river. Now do you know where all of your tax dollars went ??? That's what's up with Clopton. I feel so sorry for all of the people around here, especially the kids, and my heart is tired, not filled with hate.
