Have there been any new developments on this story? I found it ironic that the event occurred on June 23 and didn't make the news until after the flag amendment vote in Washington, DC. Since it is legal, I understand why it wasn't newsworthy.
The flag amendment reads: The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States. Either Senator Bennett doesn't trust the American people to "do the right thing" or doesn't trust himself and his colleagues to pass lawful, fair, and constitutional laws. His vote was the 34th vote to kill this amendment from coming to the states for ratification.
Senator Bennett's "toothless" statute approach would have done nothing to the malcontents and derelects that committed this now legal action.
