The message of the pastor seems to be that if people will not come to church take the church to the people in settings where they enjoy themselves. The short sermon presumably did not dwell on "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die." I used to hear of Methodists who substituted tomato juice for wine in their services.
In the small Pennsylvania town where I used to live, ministers have been going to bars on Friday evenings to talk to people in a relaxed and non-judgmental way.

New church to hold services in barroom
SIDNEY, Ohio - Another round and amen! Beer was on tap and a mechanical bull inspired the sermon as a new church held its inaugural service in a western Ohio bar.

How life imitates art; anyone remember Bob and Tom's skit on the First Baptist Bar and Grill???? A real funny tune.
