I pay taxes to live in this town and for my children to go to school here. I have a child that plays sports at AJ and it was recently brought to my attention that the only people allowed to use the practice field on AJ school property are the football boys....Now why is this allowed???Why can 't our other teams other than football practice and play on these fields???? These are our fields to....This makes me furious...And it is not fair... We take our practices and games to unsafe fields because of these rules..... Fields that are not maintained or kept up and can get our kids hurt bad....This is school sports, we should all be allowed on OUR fields!!!!!!!This is bull...Our kids were told it was for football only.....

Maybe you need to stop listening to teenage kids and start talking to the adults. Why do you take them to unsafe fields? If they are unsafe then it sounds like the booster club had better get to work repairing the field. The baseball and softball coaches take care of their fields, why doesn't the soccer coach and parents take care of their fields. The track coach and track team just got done preparing the school for a conference meet. Stop complaining and do a little work to make the fields safe. Also, it would be a stretch to use the game football field for soccer games, I believe the dimensions are a tad bit bigger for the soccer field (width) about 10 more yards and if you take the surrounding track into consideration this definately would be a hazard.
As far as the practice field, that is a lie, the band uses both the practice field and game field for practice. But the width of the practice field is not wide enough for a regulation soccer field.
Once again rather than take a teenagers word, I would contact an adult in the know, before you get your feathers ruffled.

It was quoted by a coach not just a teenager....And the soccer kids are practicing on a field that is not regulation and you don't have a choice to take them to the fields , if thats where their playing at... along with a bunch of other little kids.....

What do you mean you don't have the chance to take them to the field? That is what the coach should be doing, scheduling the time to get the kids to the field. I see that you have neglected to address the issue about parents and the coach taking care of the current soccer fields and making them safe. That would require work.
How much time and effort are you and the rest of the parents putting into the soccer complex that is needing funds to break ground? This is an opportunity that the soccer program has to build beautiful facilities. I know there are parents and citizens working hard for this cause. Rather than complaining about what you don't have, why don't you use your efforts to better your community.
Also, I thought initially you were complaining because other "taxpaying" [students] couldn't use the football practice field. But, really you are only interested in those "taxpaying" soccer players. Because regardless of band being a sport or not, they need facilities to practice. Yet, you were not concerned with them.
Good luck to the soccer team, great win yesterday!!

Don't complain about it, at least you have soccer. I go to Dongola and all we have is Baseball and Basketball. The basball field is kept up by the coaches and kids, and the softball field is the towns. Don't complain about it just be happy you have something. If it's such a big deal...do something about it. Complaining on an anonymous forum won't change anything. Talk to the school and see what can be done.

I have no problem with work... but it takes more then one person or t 2 to do this...And please ... the ball field are the city parks... there not just the baseball team coaches and parents raising money for a place to play ball at... I yet to see anyone just giving ground to anyone to play football either... The baseball team plays at the park, the football team plays at school..And I sure have not problem donating my time to mow or anything else for that matter if we had a field that was actually ours to use that wasn't beening vandalized with rock and stupid crap all the time....If you have the money or some extra land just going to waste.. I'm sure their are alot of people who would love to build a great field....

And about the band... Band has never been a concern because they have always had a place to practice on school grounds... again... they are part of the big foot ball team though....None of the parents have a problem keeping up with a field, if we actually had on to play on... we don't.. There isn't one at the park to keep up or the school... If the ground that we were suppose to get ever becomes available , believe me ... I will be the first to help.. Me and all my family members....

Nicely said! But I'm going to put it in a larger context.
Listening to spoiled adults complain and knowing that their spoiled kids will soon complain about how wonderful their life actually is bothers me and the rest of the periphery world. If you want something to complain about move to a Moldavian village. Live in equatorial Africa or some other nation where a freaking FOOTBALL itself is a a goddamn gift of priceless value.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct. Band is an ACEDEMIC subject, which makes it MORE important than sports. Why does it matter whether band is a sport or not anyway? You come here and make the claim that only certain sports teams can use the practice field, and NO ONE else can, then when someone else (correctly) shows you that you are mistaken, you claim "band is not a sport".

I think the real reason they don't want just anyone on that practice field is because there are kids who get on there and just spread trash around and junk it up, and then it's up to whatever sports team/or the band to clean it up before they can practice. I have seen the band kids clean it up more than once, and I'm SURE they aren't the only ones who have done it, considering they don't use it as much as some others do.

Those same kids also go through some pretty intense training to get them in the shape it takes to make some of the field moves they have to do. I don't know that I would consider it a sport, but it definitely DOES have it's similarities. It's not something that's easy to do.... it takes real work.

Soccer at AJCHS is a joke. They will never be at the level of the real "football" team. Football has done many great things for AJ, things that the soccer team will never be able to accomplish. Go Cats

Union County Soccer registered close to 300 kids this past fall. There are many kids that gave up youth football to play soccer. Instead of dividing up the sports, we, the adults, should try and do what's best for the kids, instead of trying to relive our youth. I understand soccer is foreign to most people in this town, but the kids want to play it, so why not give them every opportunity we can to be the best. The high school field is not owned by the high school. Nor does the high school give any money toward maintenance of the field. Since they are so poorly funded by the school, all their money goes toward equipment, transportation, and referee fees. There are plenty of people willing to give money and time to soccer. It just seems there are more that are determined to destroy it. Not sure where their fear and hated for the sport stems.
