Bobcats are common in the area. I see them regurlarly within the city limits of Jonesboro. The only thing I have heard about mountin lions are rumors...They have been photographed (one captured) just across the river in Missouri.

In regard to "panthers" I would ask that you research this topic. There is no such thing as a black phase mountain lion..........in the wild or in captivity. The ONLY all balck cats (with an exceptional Tiger)are leopards and jaguar(s). Since leopards do not live in the Americas, that leaves only the possibility of jaguars.....and they have been gone from Illinois for a long, long time. If they were ever in fact this far north.

You need to visit wildcat bluff by Vienna. There are black wildcats there. I have seen them and also my friends have them. There is usually only one at a time with other cats and appears to be the leader.

I saw a black panther next to the baseball field at Choate Mental Health about 5 years ago. There were 4 fathers and several ball players practicing on the field and we all witnessed it. It looked like a black lab at first but when 1 of the fathers got close to it in his truck it jumped up and ran away in a flash. It was definately a big cat.

I'm open to correction. Show me any verifiable evidence of a black panther.(other than the ones previously discussed. FWIW, there has ben a TEN YEAR STUDY in the Wildcat Bluff area. NOT ONE picture, track, hair, or scat sample EVER!!!!!!!!!! BLACK MOUNTAIN LIONS DO NOT EXIST.....END OF STORY.

Well where my parents live in Lick Creek there are bobcats and mountain lions and yes panthers. I have seen a panther when I was in grade school and we have heard them. The sound of a panther you will never forget, they sound as if a women is yelling for help and its a sound you won't forget. My mom heard one about 2 1/2 years when I was having my party, she was at the house. And then my lol sister heard one not even a year ago, it was this past summer. Maybe you need to get out doors more. Maybe even visit the nature more in the country. Also a few years ago there was. Momma and like 3-4 cubs that has been seen by many people at Burger King and Pizza Hut, they were stay by the rock query. In order to see one with you own eyes and even hear one, you have to be outside and by nature, it isn't gonna come you your window and say hello there "Guest" look at me! Not happening....

Well I live in mo now and even hunters here say that black panthers sound like a women yelling for help. And I know southern illinois has them cause like I said I have heard them with my own two ears and I have seen one with my own two eyes out in Lick Creek. Also my friends down the road lost all kinds of chickens cause of a panther. They even walked outside late one night Nd seen the damn thing chasing their chickens in the yard. Someone just needs to set out a game camer out there Nd just end this discussion.

OK. Let me just say, A:) I have a Phd. in wildlife biology. B.) I spend more time outdoors in a year than most people spend in a lifetime. C.) The "animal" that people reported seeing behind Burger King was a Bobcat. D.) SIU Doctoral students have been studying Bobcat populations in the Anna Quarry location for a number of years (trapping, tagging, etc.) E.) THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A DOCUMENTED CASE OF A BLACK MOUNTAIN LION EVER!!!!!!!!!

Now, I can accept the possibility of Mountain Lions being in our area. There are numerous reports of young males migrating out of the Dakotas. Many have been seen (and confirmed) in Missouri. Illinois has had 4 (I believe) confirmed sightings in recent years with one being killed in Chicago by police and one being killed by a train in the Chester area.......But again, NO BLACK CATS.

I am highly skeptical of a black leopard or jaguar living in our area..... Sightings happen ALL of the time! The same is true for Bigfoot. It doesn't make it real. Peoples' eyes can play tricks on them. The same is true for photo's......they require "scale" to confirm.

Well then maybe your Phd and you aren't in the right places cause I'm telling you that there are black panthers or jaguars what ever the hell you wanna call them, they are around so illinois and they are in lick creek. So maybe you need to go out there. Where they have been seen and heard are on hummingbird road. Maybe you need to take your self and that damn phd out there and learn something. They are there, maybe they "migrated" over there who knows but they are there.

I have never seen a black bear in ill but I believe it. Like 10-15 years ago a lady swears she seen a black bear in her yard on the out side of Gorville. They are also in mo cause my boyfriend has seen one right outside of advance and there have been many spotted in Zelma.
