I sold Kirby vacs in the 19080s for a man Denver Bray who passed away some years ago. These salesman were old school, Thd guys from the 1950,s
who used to mow their lawn ina shirt and tie.

They were great salesman they taught us the art of sales. I worked there 8 years until it wasnt any fun anymore. I did make good money and went on a lot of free vacations. They do reward great sales people.

Its not necessary to scam The Kirby is a great machine does a thousand things lasts forever. It used to cost $995.00 With whats going on today it must be tough to sell those machines if they are over $2500.00.

As far as Larry Shy ypu have to meet the guy and judge for yoursrlf. he is a very wealthy self made man He defends the Kirby Business. Its sad but the only way you can get anybody to call for a job is to write the ads the way they do . Its always been that way, We used to bring in buddies on the buddy system . Let them ride on the crew and field train I dont know what they do today, But i did get an education in selling thats not offereed at any university

I worked for them for a couple weeks. I was disappointed when I found out there was no guaranteed pay. I have school debts to pay. Granted I was a good sales person, however the job ran me ragged and I came home feeling like a Zombie. I think they're pretty great people, I respect what they're doing but it is simply not for me. I didn't get a four year college degree to sit in a van and sell home cleaning systems. And yes I didn't find out it was door-to-door selling until the first day of training. I made it all the way through the application process and it was never once mentioned at either interview.

I won't bad mouth the people, since I grew to love them in the short time I was there. It was simply not for me. Larry Shy was never rude or mean to me or anyone. He's a great guy.

I personally have not worked for Shy but my son just got fired from them. He was told that he would make a salary of $500 a week plus bonuses for selling those machines. About a week ago, he went in and they let him go. He tried to get the "salary" check this past Saturday and was given the run around. Yesterday (Monday) he was told finally that he did not make any money. But when you hire in, they tell you that you will make about $1,000 every 2 weeks. Needless to say he has reported them to the BBB and the Dept of Labor and Wage for the state of Michigan. They would work from 9 or 10 in the morning to anywhere up to 11:30 at night 6 days a week. If you see anything or get a call back from Shy and they give you an address of 717 Ellsworth Ann Arbor Mi, RUN!!!!!!!!!! and run fast. They are liars, cheats, and theifs.

I recently quit Shy enterprises. I answered an ad on Craigslist stating "Make $500/week". Of course, this caught my eye. During my interview & training they had told me that I would get a salary of $500/week, to be paid on a bi-weekly basis. They also told me that if I sold a Kirby (vacumme) that would be "bonus" money to be paid weekly ($150/Kirby sold). I worked there from Thanksgiving week until just last week, 12/4/09. Thats a 2 1/2 week period. I did not sell a Kirby, yet was expecting the "salary". When I went to collect my check they told me that they didn't have anything for me because I didn't sell anything. I asked about the $1000 salary for the two weeks and they repeted that I had not sold anything! They are paid to lie to customers in houses to get sales, "Because of my contest, we can give you this ONE TIME ONLY PRICE." They say that to EVERY CUSTOMER! Kirby is an outstanding machine (I own one) If you bust youur hump for 2 weeks and don't get paid for it when you are under the impression that you get a salary, is just plain wrong. I have filed a complaint with the michigan labor services & BBB. I know I'm not the only one in this boat either. my sister has friends that are in with me.

ok I worked there for 2 1/2- 3 weeks. they promised me a $500/week salary to be paid bi-weekly. I NEVER recieved the money. they told me SEVERAL times that selling a kirby would be bonus money to be paid weekly. I never sold a kirby, although i tried several times. I got kicked out of houses because the "canvasser" would tell the ppl that I would only take 20-45 minutes & the entire presentation is 90+minutes! I had husbands & wives say were calling the local police if I wasnt out in 5 minutes. I was on a van that got towed because we didnt have permits to solicite in that city, a common occurance, as the city cop said that this was the third time in the last month he had talked to someone from kirby. Guess who paid the ticket? Wasnt the company. Even though I was working on company time & wouldnt have even been in the city if not for the company. I filed a complaint with the Michigan dept of Labor & the BBB about the refusal to pay me. they just emailed me & siad this was not the first complaint about Shy they had receved over the exact thing. Im not saying its shady or a scam but, if you start working there being told that you recieve a <$500> a week salary & they DONT PAY YOU! well, daddy always said "if it looks like crap & it smells like crap, it MUST BE CRAP!"

So what is the state going to do to stop this action? Did they say? Shy is an underhanded company that makes money for free through the lies and promises they spew from their nasty lil mouths. If anyone from Shy wants to step up and prove to me and others that this is wrong all I can say is.......... BRING IT BABY!!!!!!!!!! I want to see the paperwork not your words. The words out of Larry and others from Shy is BS. You can make money but it depends on the old saying of "It is not who you know, it is who you blow". Thank you and have a nice day people.

Shy may sell one of the best products on the market, but their way of doing business is not right. And even worse, The way that they obtain employees is underhanded.

All position at Shy start as door to door sells, no matter what they say...
If you take the job, you will go through two or three days of "training" before that fact is made obvious. And that is when they tell you that that you pay is commission plus bonuses

True, most of the people that work for Shy are good poeple, trying to work hard. There is nothing wrong with the job itself, and you can make good money doing it.
But there needs to be some matter in truth in the hiring practices.

If someone wants something bad enough they will get it. This buisness has been around for 17 years so I'm not sure why ypu call them shady since they have been around longer then most of you have even been alive. Larry is not a scammer, your the ones who are wscaming people and being shady asshole giving people false information on something you know nothing about. And you want a dyson Ball? go ahead get a peice of shit vaccume that will eventually break down on you in a about 3 years and you have to buy another one. Then again in another 3 years. By then you would have bought more then one vaccume for the cost of a Kirby. Go back to 5th grade and learn about profits and math, you might learn something. You people are very ignorant for believing everything you read online and then just agreeing because you then feel superior and better about your ignorant self.
Hey Shadow, before you post that people are stupid and ignorant you should check your grammar.

Just had a salesman at the door. He was really shady and when I asked him why he wanted to clean my carpet, he didn't give me a direct answer. While he was in my house I said I would look up Shy Enterprises on the internet and of course the first things that popped up on my search was that Shy Enterprises is a big scam. When I asked the salesman what it was all about he didn't have an answer and just left my house. The website Shy has isn't direct either. For all you out there who say it isn't a scam it sure seems like one and I just don't trust it.

Hey small world...salesman just left my door. I live in Ky and salesman said he was from Michigan. I decided to check SHY Enterprises out..and found this site. A girl came to my door using that carpet cleaning speech, later a guy came back selling Kirbys. I think they scam their way in your door, then try to sell you a Kirby. I also expected a carpet cleaner!!! I dont like to be mislead, so I chose not to buy. They should use different to sell...AT LEAST BE HONEST!
