The equipment there is state-of-the-art and new, however, it's way to crowded and reminds me of the YMCA with all the groups of kids hanging out causing congestion. It's way over crowded. Good luck finding a tread mill on a Monday night too. The parking is at a premium and sometimes you have to walk a long way to get to the bldg in horrible weather. The staff there though parks in the premium spots.

I so agree with you! It's no fun working out at Accel with all those damn people there! I used to work out at Ankeny Fitness and am considering going back. The staff at Ankeny Fitness will walk around, get to know the members, spot you and help out. At Accel, everytime I go there, there's new staff members, almost all of which are just young, pretty girls who know nothing about body building and fitness. It's cheap but not worth it!!!

I work out there but am going to cancel my membership. There free-weight area is exceptionally small, with people tripping over one another. Management could'nt care less about the member's comfort either. They're still trying to recruit and pack in more members! Stay away from this wanna-be gym!!!

I like ACCEL in Ankeny but I do have to agree, the staff is not quite what is needed in a gym. They show little interest in the patrons. There are many pluses about it though, plenty of weight maching options, alot of free weights, good location.

Most comments were posted just after new years - the busiest time. As for parking, it's a gym; if you're going there to workout doesn't it sound weird to complain about having to walk to the door? It's not a mile. Staff has been helpful everytime I've needed help. They also have the most equipment in Ankeny. My only complaint is that they are busy, but that'll die off soon I'm sure!

Ive been going there for sometime and see signs in the parking lot and mailers in my mail box, encouraging even more people to sign up. The paking already is unbearable. What makes me upset is, having to walk from way out in the parking lot in a snow storm or pouring rain, and yet the staff parks right up close. The place already has hit capacity, why not think of the members comfort and convenience and quit recruiting even MORE? Today, I went up there at 5:30 am, and there wasn't a single treadmill to be had.

I was a member of Aspen before Accel. You think it's bad at Accel? At Aspen you couldn't get on weight machines, let alone cardio from 3:00 til close. It was horrible! I agree that employees shouldn't park up front. That's annoying!!! I will bring it to their attention and see if it makes a difference!

I've worked out at 7 Flags and Aspen Active in West Des Moines. Accel Fitness is far better than both of those gyms. The staff is much more friendly and always knows the names of the people who work out there. They're always around if you need a helping hand, yet they give you your space if that's what you want. The equipment is great and I've never had a problem waiting for someone else to get done using it. If you're always waiting for a machine or weight bench, change up your routine. I have no idea how anyone can complain about walking to a gym, you're going there to work out anyway! Must just be idiots looking for something to complain about.

Well, most staff members at the desk don't know my name, or even say "hi" for that matter when I walk in. NONE of the staff EVER spots anyone or assists them when they're working out. There's always a new face working behind the desk and they're so unfriendly!!! Bring back Ankeny Fitness!!!

I'm realy hoping that another gym opens in Ankeny. I left The YMCA because it was nothing but groups of young people hovering around the weight room socializing, and this place seems to be the same way. The girls who work there are so unfiendly too!!! DUD!

I own Accel Fitness and would love to know more about these comments. Some of these issues I can fix immediately and some will take more time. Unfortunately I can't do anything without knowing specifics.
Please feel free to email me at rob.evans@accel-fitness.com so I can try to remedy any issues. You can feel free to keep it anonymous.
Thanks for the comments!!

Rob, it would help to have a FRIENDLY staff who was actually HELPFUL to those working out and not some dude just punching your cheap time clock. Someone who interacts with the clients and is helpful. Not some young bimbo sitting behind the desk looking board and useless. I think you should raise your membership fees and weed out some of these socializers that frequent your gym as a means to meet people and only have fun. What more can I say........

I've been going to Accel for a few months now and like the type of equipment they have, but I have to say it's a pretty annoying and unfriendly atmosphere. Yesterday (Sun June 22) I went to the gym at 8:30 in the morning, it wasnt very busy, but the guy and the girl at the desk never said hi to me or even looked up at me from behind the desk while I was standing there trying to check in. I stood there awhile, they didnt seem to have time for me, so I just went in and started working out. I thought, wow, that was so rude! Anyway, Im hoping a personable gym like Ankeny Fitness opens up again here in Ankeny.

Again, this is the owner.
Jerry, thanks for the exact time and date. I've talked to them and that should never happen again. Please let me know if it does.
Mike, please don't call my employees "bimbos." I'm not sure who you are talking about but there is no reason to name call. As for them not being helpful, how and in what aspect? As for not being friendly, how? Obviously they act differently when I am there so if you could give me specifics I could try to remedy the issues.
Gina, what happened to you to make you feel like the staff is stuck-up and arrogant?
Every time I come to Ankeny I have members compliment the staff. If I don't know who is being inappropriate I can't correct it.
Thanks for your imput!

The other night i went to Accel, there was this young be-bop girl, whom has black hair and drives a black Infinity car and is supposed to be some sort of trainer there, that comes and goes at various times of the day, and I saw her park right smack-dab in front of the gym in the very first row, and very rudely took up TWO parking spaces!!! I don't know, but it would be nice if someone in charge would get a handle on all these young be-bop-bimbos who punch the time clock there.

I was at Accel and now am at Anytime in Ankeny. The staff is awesome at the Anytime, and seem to be a much higher quality member base without any of the younger members messing around like I had to deal with at Accel. I guess that's why the rates are so cheap! That's all the younger kids can afford. Good for those of that don't mind pay a little over $1 a day to workout at a place with more mature members!!
