Brent Porche Booked in Shooting of Officer
A 21-year-old man shot a police officer in the shoulder late Friday while fleeing the scene of a traffic stop, authorities reported Saturday. Officer John Chambliss was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, said State Police spokesman Johnnie Brown. New Roads Police Chief Kevin McDonald said the officer remained under treatment for his wound Saturday afternoon.
Chambliss stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Morningside Street at 9:24 p.m., Brown said. During the stop, Chambliss smelled what he believed to be marijuana, and called for backup to search the vehicle. The officers removed the driver and two passengers from the vehicle, at which point one of the passengers, Brett J. Porche, of 8823 Calligan Lane, Morganza, fled on foot, Brown said in a news release. Chambliss ran after Porche, who opened fire at him, striking the officer once in the shoulder, Brown said. Another shot was deflected by Chambliss’ bulletproof vest.
Law enforcement officers from six agencies, including the Angola chase team, began searching for Porche, Brown said. Several hours later, Porche’s father brought him to the New Roads Police Department.
Porche was booked into Point Coupee Detention Center with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated battery, resisting an officer, illegal carrying of a weapon and possession with intent to distribute, Brown said.

Thank God the officer had on a bullet proof vest, lord only knows where that second shot would have hit. Street violence, drugs, killings and now they are trying to destroy the only people that are protecting us. LET the scumbag hang.

Yep, I bet he had those saggy low pantzz on too. In prison, they gonna keep his pantzz low in the back for him. If we had public hangings, there would be less crime. Even stupid people can figure out that neck cracking sound and the losing of bowels isn't a pleasant thing when done from a wooden structure, or maybe a gilletine(sp.)like in viva la france!

Judge Best and our Faithful D.A. only set the cop shooters bail at $250,000, word on the streets is, he will be back on the streets before the weekend.
Thanks Judge and D.A.! |

I am not a lawyer, but I believe the amount of bail cannot be used to keep someone in jail. I think by law it must be the minimum amount necessary to insure the person will appear in court at the appointed time. The higher the risk of flight to avoid prosecution, the higher the bail. That being said, I personally believe that attempted murder of a law enforcement officer should be an offense which requires the alleged offender to be held without bail until trial.

Unknown...you gotta be kidding? Anybody could do what he did? He's a violent, no good miscreant. He should not be allowed bail under any circumstance. Allowing him bail spits in the face of the officer he shot, yes, SHOT, in an attempt to kill and in the faces of all law enforcement officers.

Why should a bail even get "SET" . I think in jail with no bail set at all. THIS was an attempt to kill this police. THIS guy should rot in jail without any thought of him ever getting out on the streets again. I dont know the area, but its spring break for alot of kids, "CHILDREN" could have been on the streets and they could have been the innocent bystander. THIS thug knew he was shooting at a cop and I cant believe a JUDGE would even set any kind of bail. WHAT is this world coming to. I say get "A ROPE" let him hang.

Yo, Idiot, let's not confuse race with 'stupidity'! Shooting to kill a cop or as you would say, the PO-lice, is just plain wrong. There should be public executions, then STUPID people of all color can figure out,'Hey, maybe I oughta not do that sh*t!' Look at ole BJ dangling around up there like a broken puppet! |
