People like this, is what makes people like myself ( those who don't have alot of extra money) afraid to donate what little they are able... It's very sad.

What this lady did was awful, but what is just as awful is people that do have or thier child has a legitamate illness/disease that take money from the communtity when they don't need it. I know several people here in Angola that have done just that. One family owns 2 homes, both parents have good paying jobs, goverment insurance, the yard is a playground and never a child in sight. Yet for years there were donation jars up all over town. The one house just got remodeled.
Then there is a lady who works in the best paying factory in town in the office for over 17 years, excellent benefits, including medical insurance, filed bankruptcy appx. 6-7 years ago, put in a pool, bought new vehicles. Now after money being raised for her, she has bought a farm house, had it remodeled and an in-ground pool put in, bought her son a Corvette, went on a cruise, drives a new vehicle.
One more & Im done. A couple who's daughter had leukemia, fundraisers, benefits, people donating, and still the little girl passes away. Yes, my heart goes out to these parents. No amount of money can replace what they lost. But instead of donating the money back to some other unfortunate family or to an institution for the purpose of finding a cure, they built a home on Lake James, along with new Harleys.
I have a child with a heart defect that has had numerous surgeries. My husband's insurance sucks. We have filed bankruptcy, but not once have we, or will we ask for a hand out. No. We don't get any assistance of any kind. We are the parents and it is our job to take care of our child not everyone elses.
In a nutshell: having something wrong & taking when you don't need money is just as bad as not having anything wrong and taking it when you do need it.

FYI: Scenerio #2 above: The lady with the pool spent well over $200,000.00 in less than a year on the house, in-ground pool & brand new vehicles when her old one was only a couple of years old and the new Vette for the son. Her other house is up for sheriff's auction for back taxes. Yes, all those that donated, this is where your hard earned money went. She even went on the news claiming how she was upset because she gave the fraudulent lady a $1000. Yet what did she do to the donators who thought their money was going to help get her "much needed treatments". I think I will stick to causes I know to be true & reputable.
