"She said that was the first she knew that he was alive," Thompson said. "She says they wouldn't let her leave. We're finding other stories that contradict that, that she had left."
THEY wouldn't let her leave? Who's THEY? I presume the dude and his buddy in Terre Haute? She had left ... WHERE? Terre Haute?
Honestly, where do the find your average AP reporter these days?
"Really don't want IT COME out ..."
Should be "Really don't want it (to) come out ..."
And if I'm the Marshals, I don't tell anybody how we found him. That only serves to provide current/future criminals with information they can use to elude authorities.
You don't change grammar in a quote, no matter how bad it is. Blame the people talking, not the reporter.

I wonder who gets the movie rights, this has to be an ideal for the big screen, Hell, thats where his money will come from to pay for all the time energy and effort the state spent searching for his dumb ass, they need to lock him away for ever.

Dumb idiot text messaged his girlfriend and his contact with her basically led the police right to him. Let's just hope the $170K they spent trying to find this guy didn't end up causing someone else's death (who couldn't be found because of thinned resources). If he gets out sooner than ten years, garnish this morons wages at $17K or more per year for the next ten years.

It will be interesting to follow up with him and see what he said to his sister don't you think? Did he stay in SC for 2 weeks before he went to IN or did he flee straight to IN? If he stayed in SC who did he stay with and who helped him when he ditched his boat? HUMMMMM????

As a matter of fact his dad had just recently passed away, his Mom is in her 80's and he has been a criminal since he was 18, what do you expect an 80 year old woman to do? At some point accountability has to come into play.
