Now that winters over with I want to thank the Stanhope DPW for a good job they did clearing the roads. Also thanks to some of the Stanhopes Fire Dept for clearing snow from the fire hydrants. But I would also like to complane about the Firechief Mr Card for writing a letter to the council complaining that his Dept should not have cleared the hydrants, that the DPW should have. Most towns the firedept clear hydrants as a firedrill. Witch makes sense to me,why would we want the DPW clearing hydrants there not going to be called out on a fire,so the fire dept should clear them so they know were there at. and Mr Card I know you did not clear the hydrants yourself anyway so why do you care?I't time for you to retire.

the reason most DPW's clear fire hydrants is because they are owned by the town. this is the same reason why most towns are no longer allowed to fill up peoples pools as a fundraiser, because its the "towns" water. it should be a joint effort. if the DPW is clearing the sidewalk, why not clear the hydrant thats five feet away?
REALLY stupid

You make no sense. You need to shovel the hydrants out not plow them. Your analogy about the water in the pools also makes absolutely no sense. Who cares who owns the fire hydrants, put down your beer for a few minutes and grab a shovel. Maybe burning a few calories will help you fit into your gear a little better.
Every other town vol. FD does it. It's embarrassing to your department that this is even a topic.

Actually in most towns the residents clear the hydrant on their property. That could be a program that could be started...oh wait, mcneilly is the administrator, nothing will be done.

SFD your own guys in the dept told Gary not to write the town about the shoveling, but he did so on his own.I know Gary used to work for the DPW and he did not get along with the boss, maybe this is just him starting problems? And about ask Daddy who wouldsay that do you have a name?

bob, lets get this straight, yes chief worked for the dpw and that ws yr ago, as for the dept sayin not to write lette is completely false, the only people who discussd this was the officers and they were all in agreement,
