Greenville is a nice town, way better than Columbia, which is the pits. The culture in Columbia is like it's being ran by a bunch of high school children. The local media stinks, more like a community billboard, ran by a bunch of freaks.Greenville is ten times better in any category you choose to compare them.

Myself and my wife are going to be re locating to Greenville SC. We visited last week and knew in an instant that we wanted to move there. We live in Florida as of now and wasn't looking to relocate until early next year but we miss it so much we can't wait that long.
The one big issue we have found so far is that no one will return our calls? we have contacted a few local agents regarding rentals in the mcdaniels area and also the downtown area but it's like pulling teeth to get them to call you back again. Is it just that they are too busy or is it that they are too laid back to think that someone wants to move to their beautiful town and you will keep calling until they have time for you. Apart from this one obstacle we totally love Greenville and the Mcdaniels park area. just beautiful. |

Judged: 1 I love the weather. I was originally from Buffalo Ny. cold! so i'm in Heaven. I visited several southern cities before choosing Greenville. Chatanooga was beautiful but the crime rate was high. Austin was to expensive. Charlottesville was expensive and snobby. Asheville was the worse. Snobby, expensive, irritating hippie people, such a shame cause Asheville had the prettiest scenery of the places i checked out. So people come to Greenville. |

Thank you Natalie. I had tried NC last year but just didn't feel the connection at all. Ashville was not what I expected and I felt it was pretty run down as where some of the other area we visited. lake lure and the blue ridge mountains are beautiful but you can't base yourself there to work unless you have a home business.
SC and in particular Greenville had everything I was looking for in an up an coming town. You could tell they took a lot of pride in the design and layout and the Falls river was amazing. It was the kind of town where you just felt like getting out for an early morning run and meeting your friends downtown at night for a meal and a drink. We still feel the main issue is getting people to get back to you in a timely fashion. You call someone and you have to wait and wait for a call back. You enquire about somewhere to live and its hit or miss if you will ever get a return phone call. I feel that I would want to start my own business when we get there to help people re locate to this beautiful area. I feel there might be a business venture here somewhere LOL. We are looking for work and we are looking for a house or a loft within the Downtown greenville area or McDanies. It was such a nice manicured yet historic environment. Thanks again for your reply. |

I'm from the upstae area. The truth is.. "old money" rules here too. The economy is poor in comparison with the rest of the country. Jobs are hard to find. It does help if you went to Furman, USC or Clemson. however, if you didn't, good luck.. As far as church.. yea, people associate you with waht church you attend. Also, it doesn't matter if you grew up here and you parents did, etc... if they arent people of power or old money, you're out. I say all this because " I'm out", I wne to college somehwere else and have lived in differnt places, coming back here to live and try to make any money is a mistake. the only reason I'm here is to help my family.... Seriously, employers around here think that you can actually survive on 7.50/hr... they think they are doing you a favor at 9 or 10 /hr. So, my advice is, unless you are in a career position where you are in high demand, I would seriously think over the negatives to moving to the upstate of S.C.. Sincerely, Anderson native.

We moved from South Carolina to East Tennessee where the taxes and cost of living are great with no crime to speak of. Waterfront Property with acerage here is affordable. |

I am looking to relocate in 6 months. The cost of living is way to high here in NYC. I have a decent income that will not change when I relocate, so I am looking to have it go a lot further than it does up here. I am in college now, and would like to continue when I move. I have one child in high school and one that just finished. I have no knowledge of TN or SC that matter, so I don't know how I'm going to manage choosing the right place to live. Online research is my only tool, although I may be able to take a drive down south comes early spring.
Any ideas? |

Sounds better than living in satanic communist Boston.

I can't wait until we are living in Greenville myself and my wife miss it very much. We will make a return visit early next year and look for work right away. I still do no understand why people never return phone calls and no one wants to help with moving to the area but we will see what we find on the next visit |

Moved to Greenville from Boston. Love this place. Yeah, the driving sucks, but so does Boston driving. At least the traffic isn't as horribly congested.
The people seem much more chill here than up north, the weather is fantastic, and the cost of living is very reasonable. Also love the variety of food here. I would never go back to Boston! SC is cool. |

I have lived in greenville area for 14 years, lived in columbia before, and I like greenville better because it has a nicer downtown and is closer to the mountains. I am originally from France.People in the south here are friendly and usually everyone treats me nice. When they hear my accent they ask me where I am from and then we start talking. I don't know about the yankee thing ,but it might have some truth to it. What I really love is going for rides in the blue ridge mountains and fall is incredible there. You can drive out of greenville and in 30 minutes you are on a scenic highway. So yes I would recommend living here. The state of SC is a little backwards in compare to the rest of the country and the religious stuff nerves me. But in general the people are friendly and I kind of think of this place as my home.My hubby recently got transferred to another state and lives 8 hours away from me. I don't wanna move yet and give up my house. So I guess I do have roots here after all. I might have to move soon but I'll always be fond of the upstate!

I moved here 1.5yrs ago from Texas, retired Military and I am extremely happy. Simpsonville, minutes from Greenville is the place to live and if you are looking for a home, contact realtor Mariea Coates, she is awesone. Found me the perfect home, and when I shipped my cars, she met them, had them cleaned, and stored them to my arrival. She picked me up from the airport, introduced me to local cruzine, and when the moving truck arrived, offered to help unpack. She is great! |

Hi All,
I'm a single mother of 2 girls (10 & 2)in the process of finishing my degree in Respiratory Care as of June 2012...I currently reside in southern NJ but I am very interested into relocating to Greenville, SC. I feel most comfortable with renting until I can explore the newly lived grounds and decide where/when to buy a home down there. Long story short: I'm a young single women (28 yrs) with my 2 girls, 1 car, and starting a new career. We love the outdoors, we love convience even more, and I still like to be able to socialize too. What is the environment like for a "northern" girl such as myself? Is G'vle family/kid friendly and single parent socialiable friendly too? What's the job market census in the medical field? I understand that I'm asking for a strangers opinion but any and all insight is most helpful, Thanks for your time. |

I have lived in north Alabama most of my life but I have lived 4 yrs in Spartanburg and another 4 yrs near Greenville in Taylors. Yes there are bad and selfish drivers there (and back stabbers, too) but there are worse here in Huntsville. But there are some very good people in the Upstate, too. Back when I lived in SC, I read that Huntsville was looking to Chattanooga for inspiration to revamp downtown. So I sent the group a letter or two telling them to look at Greenville because they have very similar backgrounds (former textile industries), size (Greenville-Greer-Spartanburg is similar to Huntsville-Madison-Decatur), makeup of people (locals and imports), etc. While I found Greenville to have more of an industrial base, Huntsville is more high tech thanks to military and NASA support and their spinoffs. But Huntsville's downtown development is like Greenville's before the Reedy River and Main Street upgrades. It's a shame. And Huntsville is nothing like Chattanooga which is ON the Tennessee River and has some massive development downtown. That is why I wrote them. I do miss the Upstate because some people there were truly nice to me (amid the BS artists) and the amount of food choices was out of this world. Within a few miles of where I lived in Taylors, I counted over 50 different places to eat. Thai, Indian, Greek, Cuban, along with all the rest.

Problem with G'ville is the way they do business! Takes them forever to get back to you and when they do you're already looking at another job prospect. Find the people to be a little self-centered, as displayed in the driving and judgement of anyone north of south Carolina. Guarantee you will be tail-gated here as soon as you get on the road, regardless of what lane you're in. Look out for manipulative people too. But hey it's millions time better than a few other states i could rattle off the top of my head. And there are some good people here if you look hard enough. The "Yankee" thing is rather archaic and immature, however. Nice weather at least....lol...

Hello, My husband and I are looking for a community to build a custom house but we don't really know what areas in the greenville/simpsonville that well. We are looking for good school districts and fair price for land. Any ideals? Please feel free to email me at charlton.shirley@live.com
