Raymond was allegedly shot, multiple times, by Steven Randall Cobb, 31. Cobb was apprehended on Monday.Raymond was found on Wilson Lake Road, several yards from his wrecked car, at roughly 6am, after the mail carrier reported an accident. It's been reported that Diehl was shot, tried to flee, and fell on the road.He and Cobb knew one another, but the exact nature of that relationship, and a motive for the shooting has not been released. I knew Raymond. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a genuinely good person. No one deserves what happened to him.

This is what I found in the news paper.
BELTON -- A shooting on Sunday left one Belton man dead and another charged in his murder.
Raymond Diehl, 46, of 208 N. Major Road, Apt. A, died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to Detective C. Chad McBride, public information officer for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office criminal investigative division.
Captured the next day at a home on Lewis Drive, just north of Belton, was Steven Randall Cobb, 31, of 100 McFalls Circle. He is facing murder charges and is being held in the Anderson County Detention Center.
He was apprehended by deputies and members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Law enforcement officers had searched several locations in or near Belton, including an area on O’Neal Street where Cobb’s cell phone was used, before locating him.
His arrest followed a shooting early Sunday morning. Ebenezer Fire Department firefighters answered a wreck call on Wilson Lake Road, only to find Diehl in the middle of the road. He was transported to AnMed Health Medical Center where he died. Wilson Lake Road connects Wright School Road to Bethany Church Road.
A passer-by originally found Diehl and notified authorities that there had been a car accident. Deputies say a passer-by found the man alive in the roadway near a car.
A check of Anderson County General Sessions court records show that Cobb has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1995. Charges run the gamut from several charges of assault and battery with intent to kill and failure to stop for blue lights to grand larceny and driving under suspension. Some of the charges are as recent as July 6 when he was charged with failure to stop for a blue light, grand larceny and possession of methamphetamine or cocaine. In June he was charged with failure to stop for a blue light, a charge he also faced in May. Many of the earlier charges were dropped as part of plea bargains, records show. Diehl had no general sessions court charges in the county and only a few traffic violations.
Murder charges levied
From reading this news clip, it sounds like Cobb should have been in jail. If he was, my family would not have lost a dear cousin. I have the court system to thank for this.

I live in Belton and considered Raymond a close friend. Personally I believe the ball was SEVERELY dropped when it comes to this tragic situation. Raymond was the type of person who would give to someone in need even if it meant he would do without. You would think after someone is killed their residence would be secured by the poice to avoid theft,.... but because no one knows the exact reason Raymond went with Randall that night, Speculation about sinister motives arises....when the truth is he probably gave Randall a ride somewhere because he asked..... Unfair is the conclusion of drug use, or criminal behavior on Raymonds part, he was a decorated Military Veteran who came from an unbroken all american home. I knew him...he tried to help the wrong person and it cost him his life. Lets all hope the justice system won't let Randall get away with anything else.....
