moved from Buffalo N.Y. to casper in 1947. It was so different, took me a long time to feel at home there. But I married raised 5 children and my husband and both worked for close to 45 years in Casper. Me-at anything I could find and him in refining. In 2001 we moved to Ariz, bought a lot in a small retirement communty and enjoyed every minute of our time here. My husband died in Oct. of 07. One day in August, out of the blue, he looked at me and said "When I die I want to go home to Casper." I said sure. 2 months later he went to his Heavenly home and to his earth home that he loved and lies next to his daughter. They are both still in the place we considered home for all our lives. I still am at home in Arizona but my Heart home is in Casper, Wyoming and someday I'll be coming home to join my husband and our daughter - home together forever-at last.

I live in the middle. Always have. I've visited both Florida and California. I find Florida slow. I find California wierd. Both have very good things about them, though. I think we all are just used to where we grew up and the kind of people and the ways we grew up. |

I was raised in southwest Oklahoma as was my spouse. We only go back for funerals and to help other relatives move away. We now live in Phoenix and never plan to leave. While the summers may be a bit toasty for some, it fits our lifestyle and hobbies well. No more ice frozen car doors or windshields, no tornado's with multiple vortexes, we have witnessed five tornados in one day near Phoenix, during an odd weather year where Phoenix received rain storm after rain storm. Those twisters we saw near Phoenix? Were mini-me's compared to what we experienced in Oklahoma. Plus the economy here is never a threat if you are willing to make adjustments; you never have to worry about being without employment. We plan to go back to Oklahoma later this summer, out of the obligated need to check on loved ones burial plots, and give our annual "pack up the truck and move" speech, to family & friends who can't quiet break away from the constant protection of never taking risks or changing. As always after a trip back in time, to a place that is the same as it was forty years ago, coming home to Phoenix is a reaffirmation that the decisions we made that brought us to Arizona were the best for us. In the same breath I know that what is right for one may not be a match for another. I often day dream of times long ago and cherish each memory, knowing that it took what it took to get me to where I am today. I have no regrets of moving away from my hometown and yet I understand what it is that keeps those who stayed behind from ever moving away.

I was born and raised in the Ashland Wi., area. I've had enough of those cold winters. Moved to Kentucky and that still was too cold. Now I'm in Florida and that is where I'm staying. Its been 20 some years that I've been back up there.

I couldn't wait to get out of the town where I graduated from high school. I thought, and still believe, there wasn't and isn't any future for me there.
Unfortunately, the thought-they-know-it-alls I grew up with, and had made my life miserable back then, reincarnated and followed me everywhere. |
