How do you lose a 2 year old? I have grandchildren, 3 and 8 and when they are with me, they never leave my sight. This is a tragedy and my thoughts will be with the family.

hard to believe when looking for a missing 2 year old you don't bother to look in the bottom of your own swimming pool! you would think that is where they would have looked first?!

At this time I do not feel that it is right to bash this family. The grandparents are going to feel the pain of this tragic accident everyday for the rest of their lives. I do not believe that they need strangers telling them what horrible people they are. A tragic accident like this could happen to anyone--unfortunately yesterday it happened to this family. My thoughts and prayers are with this family, and as the days go by, I hope they have peace. God Bless

This is exactly why I will never have a swimming pool. Obviously, these people should have been watching the child closer (why was the gate unlocked? Why didn't the check the pool?).
Accidents happen even when the child is properly supervised. Pools and small kids are just a dangerous combination.

My thoughts and prayers go out to these people, it is a tradagy that can not be undone. To the people who believe that thier self center veiw of the world should include bashing the families of things like this 9or the 2 year old in Gary) i pray that your life is never effected by anything like this. Children can dissappear in a second, I knw it has happened to me, as I've stated before, by the Graace of God go I, or any other parent or child care provider. If you can't offer support for these families then why post? Don't you know these thoughts are racing through thier minds, show some compassion, be supportive and pray not only for the victems but everyone involves.

I'm praying for the family. This is such a tragedy that could have been prevented. Hopefully this tragedy will teach others to practice pool safety when children are nearby.

I know the grandparents and they are very caring individuals. People make mistakes. I am sure that they thought the gates were locked. Unfortunately no one is perfect. My condolences are with the family.

I feel the grandparants should be charged w/something...you can never be too carefull when children are involved....the gate should have been complete locked so that the child could not have entered into the pool area.

This is the worst possible thing that could happen to anyone. I am a good friend of the father and no the grandparents very well. in this time we need to support the family not remind them what happend. They wil be doing that to them selfes as it is. If anybody has anymore bad comments you can keep them to your self or deal with me. Bad comments are not helping anything except your own feelings and making you feel perfect and you no your not. God Bless

I couldn't imagine the feeling of not being able to find a child, to realize I didn't have the resources to find them and need to resort to 911. Or to watch the officer dive to the bottom of the mearkey pool to retrieve the small body. I'm sure there suvival of the incident is punishment enough for them. No charges need filed since the child was placed in better care. I praise the responders for their brave work. And pray for the family.

First of all i would like to tell you that if you dont know the whole story maybe you shouldnt speak at all...they DID check the swimming pool first...the water wuz so dirty that they couldnt see anything, and the had poles diggin around in the pool...there wuz even divers in the pool searching for the body...he was at the BOTTOM of the deep end...the water was freezing and almost black, there was no possible way for the grandfather to see him, because trust me, that is the first place he looked....also maybe you need to know that the pool is fenced in, attatched to another house...the other house is rented out by an elderly gentleman...the grandparents shouldnt be held responsible for the gate being unlocked, because the old man that lives there comes and goes from that gate all day long. The 2 yr old's name was Caidyn, and he was my nephew...we miss him greatly, he didnt do anything to deserve this. At first we did blame the grandparents, but then we realized how much pain they themselves are going through. It was a terrible accident and no one can be held accountable. We all think that nothing like this could EVER happen to us, and that its just something we see on TV...but the truth is, its reality, it can happen to anyone, and I pitty those who think they need to bash our family just to make themselves feel better...To all those here for support, I thank you. My sister and her husband and their other 3 little boys really need the love and support.
