More smoking bans. Gosh, almost every day you can read about new smoking bans or new cigarette taxes. It is nice that there is some GOOD news in the paper these days.

As a smoker, I have no problem with the smoking ban. The problem I DO have, however, is the two days they gave businesses before enacting the ban. I feel they should've been give at least three months to implement the ban. Two days is ridiculous!

Perhaps private ie not open to the public placed should have been left out of bans. I hear baccon is the next ban and energy drinks. I am sure these cities ban the sale and taxes on all tobaco products in their cities

I don't blame them and understand about wanting a ban for nonsmokers and people very sensitive to smoke. But i'm tired of getting bronchitis from being outside in the cold for a smoke.

You have bad info--Check the Derby website--The law goes into effect Sept 1. The original ordinance was passed the first of the year-this is an amended version

It's well known that most drunks, degenerates and riffraff type people are anti-smokers, all anti-smokers share that stigma.

Maybe it was Maize that did the 2 days? I know I read it in the paper about one or the other. Doesn't matter, the places I work in Derby have been "smoke free" since last summer. Very few places had smoking areas left in Derby before the ban.

Check out the states that do have smoking bans enforced. You'll see that the homicide rate has increased in those areas. The only ones stressing are those who don't have the calmness of nicotine running through there veins.

Why do cities worry so much about a "level" playing field when trying to pass these bans? We all know that bans don't hurt businesses. Must be missing something.

Better yet if bans are so good for business why would they want a level playing field?

Thats cool, it's kind of nice not being able to smoke in some places because it just sticks to your clothes a bit after going to a diner. I smoke and don't normally stand right in front of a doorway to blow it in faces walking by so it doesn't make much difference to me as a smoker... If people cared that much about breathing in a negligible amount of all these deathly poisions they wouldn't go to the business where there is smoking and it would work itself out for everyone. And there are still places that do not allow smoking which already have their customer base. Then again some people may go to a specific place because there is smoking and it may hurt these businesses the most, and for what reason?
