Wondering if there is any interest out there in forming a "one-day" organization to help defend peace and freedom of movement in Red Hook. In the event John McCain wins the November election I anticipate the current crop of rich, angry, wanna-be anarchist Bard students may again want to march into our community, disturb the peace and disrupt commerce and your freedom of movement by shutting down roadways and ripping "support the troops" emblems from parked cars. This occurred the day after the 04 election - spoiled cry-babies, some wearing bandanas to intimidate the public and conceal their identity - repeatedly disobeyed orders of the police and abused their rights as guests in our community. Many of the student faces will have changed this year - but I expect the faces of the aging hippie faculty members/facilitators who quietly accompanied and encouraged them will be the same. I would like to be part of a community group that could assist law enforcement by monitoring the Bard mobs movements and extensively photograph their acts for possible future prosecution. Perhaps we could even return the favor with a counter-demonstration on their sprawling tax-exempt campus. What do you think?

What do I think? I am 54, hard working, married to my first wife, have two kids (one of whom happens to be a successful, clear-headed, high-achieving student at Bard College), pay my taxes on time, traditional conservative (as opposed to kool-aid drinking Hannity-Limbaugh-dittohead-pub lican). What do I think? I think that you are a troll and should crawl back to your burrow under the Rhineclif Bridge.

Thank you, MRK, for your intelligent and thoughtful input. Despite the fact that it is not likely that you are any of the things you claim in your post, I do appreciate that you took the time to contribute to this forum. I look forward to seeing you the day following the election. RHD

Woke up for church and my husband headed to work. Spit on my husbands door handle and windshield. Just another beautiful Sunday morning in the village of Tivoli. Door handles and windshield slobbered in spit. Just another day. Mobs of Bard students gathering under our windows on Broadway. Smashing any signs that they disagree with. Trampling yards and private property for no other reason than they disagree with what you think. Just another night in Tivoli. Village government has the opinion that taxpaying residents have no rights, that Only Bard students contribute to our local economy. S.O.S. It is my opinion that American flags are despised here. This is what liberal means? Do you really want to move here? ilovit, I don't think so.

Tell me why in a time where taxpayers are forced to the max, why are colleges tax exempt! Can you imagine the revenue states would earn? We have to pay to attend, we go broke getting an education, we have to pay interests on loans, we have to pay room and board, we have to pay taxes on top of taxes..Bard College has one of the highest tuitions in the country. The town claims "they spend money here" B.S. they shop where everyone else shops......Walmart in Ulster County! Anyone know the stats of how much Red Hook land Bard owns Tax Free??
