US$ 7.75 per hour (January 1, 2012)

If you're really serious about moving here, I would work through a realtor company for a place to rent unless, you're planning to live in a hotel for a few months before finding a place to live and, summer time hotel rates are high as with any where else.
Like any where, you stand a chance of getting ripped off for a place previously paid for that isn't a certified realtor.
Google hotels in Anchorage for prices. Don't just come and expect to find a place. Anchorage is in short supply for rentals.

I lived in AK for 27 years. My two girls were born and grew up in Anchorage. My best friends are still in Alaska but beware. Alaska is not what you see on TV or in the Movies. The weather is grim, Cold, dark, dreary. Some years there is no summer..it is nearly May 20th and they're predicting snow. I move from Anchorage to California 8 years ago and while I love living in AK..I wish I'd left years ago. Alaska has an extremely high crime rate! If you love to live indoors or recreate in cold gloom...go for it. In its defense, there are many wonderful adventures but why not enjoy them where the crime is not so high and the weather more temperate. Do your research, Alaska is NOT for everyone. Purchasing is expensive...discounts and offers usually exclude Alaska and Hawaii. It's expensive to fly to or from..In a nutshell there are many many better, more friendly and habitable places to live. And another point to remember is that the school system for the most part stinks!!! Every day for the last two weeks, my friends have called and complained that they cannot take it anymore! Seattle is gloomy but the quality of life in the Pacific north west is amazing!! I'd Consider pretty much anywhere Other then Alaska!!! But if you must...do your research!!

Convince your friends to move like you did. Soon as the population drops, things will be a lot better than they are, especially if the whiners would just move and out and stay away. That would have to decrease our population by at least ten to twenty thousand people if the whiners left? Just saying :)

You know how America's called the melting pot because of it having so many nationalities? Well Alaska is like that, Anchorage and Fairbanks specifically because we have so many nationalities here. You'd have no problem fitting in.
We're #20 in America for high rent. If you're really serious about moving here, I would research the Wasilla area as rent is lower there. A lot of people working in Anchorage live there, it's a 40 minute drive.
If rent $ isn't an issue, I would look up Weidner rental properties in Anchorage, call them and pre-pay for an apartment before you come so you have a place ready to live in.
Good luck.

OH wow, not in Anchorage honey, you will get towed if you park in the wrong place camping and the state wants all your money to camp anywhere for hundreds of miles, lilve off the land? HA, you can only LOOK at the mountains, you , you can't even go in there. Drug infested police state . Corrupted. YOu would have to laive way out in nowwhere . To live off the land , So cold you have to stay indoors many months. To cold to even pump your own gas for two minutes without some kind of $70.00 high quality long underware, the cold goes right to the bone an you get sik of it.Then the city chops the ice onto the drive ways into businesses so that the bottem of your nice car gets wrecked on it. slip on the ice and break your neck , slip under your car if you don't wear cleates. Children do not get busses to school if they live withen a mile. THey ahve to walk to school in 0 degrees and forced to play out as well . Nice to look at though. OH, your neihgbor may call office of children's services on you if you do not smoke pot as they do and your kids play barefoot in the summer or their toy is in the way of the mail box .If they are withdrawing they are not in good moods. Otherwise, it is very beaughtiful. The scenery is breath taking , but don't let if fool you. A lot of drug addicts, if you do drugs you will fit right in and love it there. MArijuana friendly state. The more drug money into the state the better. That is what they like there.
Interesting.

Though individuals from specific states of Mexico, Central and South America would call themselves specific titles for description of where they're from, those of us born elsewhere usually (be it correct incorrect or politically incorrect) call those from Mexico, Central and South American countries/states as Hispanic since Spain pretty much infected those three geographical areas with their Spanish DNA and language and culture for a few centuries before the English had even settled a colony in America.
If you have an issue with the usage of the terminology, I would suggest you begin your protest with Mexican and American media and American politicians that use that word mainly to describe those south of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas borders and those in America from aforesaid mentioned countries/states.

What is wrong is wrong and ignorance is often derived from the media. IN fact they are all Americans and Mexico is in North America. Columbus landed in South America in 1498 not 1492 and he never came to North America.

You speak of other's ignorance and claim ignorantly Columbus landed in South America? Columbus landed in the Bahamas and called them San Salvador. He then hit what we call Cuba and onward.
You want to throw some fit over the usage of a word like "Hispanic" have at it but it's a waste of your own time seriously.

Be careful, Columbus landed in what is known as Haiti and the Dominican Republican in 1492. He made 4 separate voyages. You seem to think there was one and in 1492. Columbus did not arrive in America, in South America, until 1498. It appears as though you are having the fit, I am simply correcting historical errors which you are propagating.

It is as long as you keep the sprinklers going. We've had lots of heat and little rain.
