Carrying this information over from the other thread....

Recently happened upon this great Humble Pie video....Loved rock music like this as a teenager.....The introduction must be indicative of the reasons given for Humble Pie being left out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (i.e., "does not play well with others"; lol); the lyrics are quite lovely too <sarcasm>; nevertheless, one of the very best rock videos imaginable--Steve Marriott appears to be at his best here:

Though their demeanor was offensive, that was actually quite funny for Marriott to say he was "Dirk Bogarde" (Bogarde was in a film with one of my favorite actresses--Susannah York); Marriott was overtly effeminate in at least one of the Humble Pie videos from that time period....Bogarde's Wiki page explains:

Personal life[edit]

For many years he shared his homes, first in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, then in France, with his partner Anthony Forwood, who was the former husband of actress Glynis Johns and the father of their only child, actor Gareth Forwood. Bogarde repeatedly denied that their relationship was anything other than platonic. Such denials were understandable, mainly because male homosexual acts were criminal during most of his career, and could lead to prosecution and imprisonment. Rank Studio contracts included morality clauses, which provided for termination of the contract in the event of 'immoral' conduct on the part of the actor. This would have included same-sex relationships, thus potentially putting the actor's career in jeopardy.[15]

It is possible that Bogarde's refusal to enter into a marriage of convenience was a major reason for his failure to become a star in Hollywood, together with the critical and commercial failure of Song Without End. His friend Helena Bonham Carter believed Bogarde would not have been able to come out during later life, since this might have demonstrated that he had been forced to camouflage his sexual orientation during his film career.[16] The actor John Fraser, however, said that "Dirk's life with Forwood had been so respectable, their love for each other so profound and so enduring, it would have been a glorious day for the pursuit of understanding and the promotion of tolerance if he had screwed up the courage..."[17]

At least Peter Frampton was polite. He appeared to laugh with the man a bit over the silly question instead of responding by laughing harshly at him like Marriott and Greg Ridley seem to do. Interesting to note Marriott's microphone no longer has sound approaching the 11:00 mark.....

LOVE THIS....Just found it today, and there is another great video of hers but the ghoulish stage props bkind of mess it up for me--maybe they're there for humorous effect, hard to know when not understanding the French lyrics....anyhow, great, great sounding song--love Sheila in 1967---such great b/w, right up there with her Adios Amor videos:

Sheila is even better in this one but just can't tell if those stage props behind her are meant for ghoulish effect or what....I'll have to llok up the lyrics now and try and get a sense of what was going on--sometimes they were playing games in the videos by infusing negative elements into sentimental pop songs, perhaps for a chuckle or two--hard to tell:

Okay, yes--may have guessed correctly--the lyrics, considering the wacky online translation, appear to be sappy pop song lyrics, so the ghoulish looking props might have been done for humor as in "Oh God, I'm about to marry this woman?":

When you left,
Both of us promised each other
To think about each other
At the same time

And like every night
Together we will be able to
Finally, love yourself from afar
At the same time

Yes! I think of you,
Do not worry
Since you will be alone
In my heart

I tell you my sorrows
I tell you my joys
You know I love you
That there is only you
Yes, nothing but you!

Before falling asleep
In the evening, I pray for you
And if I do it
I know
That it is written
That my life must be with you
And you can be sure
Never, ever, will I forget it!

And we will get married,
We will have children
There is no reason
Let it be otherwise
Since we love each other
And that's for life
But yes! Yes I think of you!
I think of you!
I think of you!
I think of you!
I think of you my love!{ad lib}

Funny...Beginning to catch on a bit more....It's hard to discern the lyrics when Marriott sings, but the lyrics (attributed to Muddy Waters) online include the following (helping to explain the Dirk Bogarde reference):

Still I will, I was a captain
I'd sail on the sea, ah yes
I'll have all you merry seamen
You're all right with me, yeah yeah
All right with me
You know I'm a, you know I'm a, I'm, I'm a rolling stone.

Great! They brought this back--the visual video only lasts for so long unfortunately, but the audio includes the entire song:

Interesting....Sheila's Wiki page explains that in the 1980's...."Becoming disillusioned with the music business and record industry, she abandoned her music career between 1989 and 1998. During this break, she wrote three successful books, had her own regular TV show, played in a TV series and started making sculptures."

So those sculptures--of which I referred (above) to as "ghoulish stage props"--in one of her "Dans Une Heure" videos might have been Sheila's own personal sculptures.

"Papa was a rolling stone
Wherever he laid his hat was his home
And when he died, all he left us was alone"

....Rod Stewrt only needs a tail on that outfit and he could be one of the characters on the (early 1970's) Hannah- Barbara Banana Splitz float! I was a member of the Banana Splitz Fan Club as a child--sent away for the membership from off the back of a Cocoa Puffs cereal box and was absolutely ecstatic when the package of decals and stickers, etc., and document stating I was a member of the Banana Splitz Fan Club came in the mail. Positively screamed like a girl when the mailman handed me the package. Had I known that would be the happiest moment in my life might have jumped off a cliff the following day.

Gotta love the internet--the Banana Splits television show has a Wiki page:

"The Banana Splits Adventure Hour is an hour-long, packaged television variety program featuring The Banana Splits, a fictional rock band composed of four funny animal characters. The costumed hosts of the show were Fleegle (guitar, vocals), Bingo (drums, vocals), Drooper (bass, vocals) and Snorky (keyboards, effects).

The series was produced by Hanna-Barbera, and ran for 31 episodes on NBC Saturday mornings, from September 7, 1968, to September 5, 1970. The costumes and sets were designed by Sid and Marty Krofft and the series' sponsor was Kellogg's Cereals.[1] The show featured both live action and animated segments and was Hanna-Barbera’s first foray into mixing live action with animation."

Only 31 episodes but I was all over that program! Absolutely loved it!
