Lane splitting is anger provoking and probably triggers road rage. These motorcyclists use lane splitting to pass in traffic and then they sit in the middle of the lane when it suits them, impeding the flow of traffic. They shouldn't have it both ways. Either lane split all the time or make it illegal. I feel like running them off the road when they pull that crap and I ride a bike. I never lane split.

Lane splitting may be legal but it's not required. I was in heavy traffic this morning and a guy on a motorcycle seemed perfectly content to stay in the middle of his lane and go with the flow. He got to where he was going just fine, I am sure.

haha yeah he was lane splitting at 4:25 in the morning. let's make up another scenario: some driver on the phone, drinking coffee and playing with the radio while applying makeup swerved into his lane and killed him. he was doing the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws. that's what i think happened.

Lane splitting allowed with traffic up 45 mph and the bike 10 mph faster. That's a guide line. There is no law or regulation about lane splitting, there's just no law against it. Every time someone tries to ban it the CHP fight for it. If it's against the law CHP couldn't do it and would have turn on sirens making people move to the right and creating a huge traffic problem. That is according to the CHP.
Awesome that is the stupidest comment i've seen posted yet. like any law enforcement agency in the United States fallow any laws or rules. they drive drunk knowing their police buddies will just get or give them a ride home. look how many CHP cars are in the diamond lane with one person in the vehicle. we should all be empowerd to get their license numbers and issue them a ticket in the mail.

there is no definitive law for lane splitting. the CHP Web site says that "safe and prudent judgement" are all that's required.
motorists that hate on lane splitters are wearing their jealousy on their sleeve simply because they waste their lives away rotting in their cars in stagnant traffic while bikes cruise on past...haters. get over it.

Well that's what a couple CHP motor cops told. For every bike lane splitting is one less car on the road. If just 1% more people road bikes imagine how much better traffic would be.
I know cops don't follow laws. I was riding in the carpool lane (legal) and an unmarked LAPD car with a uniformed cop driving on my tail. I pulled out of the carpool lane illegally pulled next to glaring because I wasn't going fast enough (70 mph) then sped off. All by himself.

Inconsiderate biker? Hey jackass, this "inconsiderate" biker has died. Sorry to inconvenience you. Again, how do you even know he was the cause of this incident? Whether or not he did, he died.
As for outlawing lane splitting, are you even aware this is why he died? You don't do you? Stop talking out of your ****. If anything, lane splitting/sharing in California is what keeps most bikers alive because most car motorists are too **** busy yapping on their cell phones, brushing their teeth, doing their makeup, scolding their kids, etc instead of focusing on the task at hand....DRIVING! If bikers sat in traffic with cars, they would get rear ended left and right from these zombified California drivers. So, next time you decide to propose something, make sure you think it over to see if it makes some semblance of common sense.

Weird...my profile keeps coming up as Indianapolis, IN. I'm in Los Angeles, CA. I think it's because the company I work for has its headquarters in Indiana.

Anyways, I cringe everytime I open this sort of news....not just the fatality involved, but they digress into motorcyclists vs. car tirades. Gets old.

Well my goodness. How many more fatal accidents involving motorcycles will we be seeing in the vicinity of LA this year? Somebody didn't get the memo--bikes are dangerous. I understand people ride them for different reasons, but is it worth it in the end? My condolences to the guy's family.

One thing contributing to it are the huge number of fools who think they're too cool to take a safety course.

you need to get out more LANE spliting can only be done IF the flow of traffic is below 35mph on the freeway and you can only go 10mph over the stopped cars...so the ones you are talking about are breaking the law...but the cops do it ? most all car people hate lane splitting BECAUSE it pisses them off because they are stuck in traffic and the bike is not..........BUT a bike....
You need to buy a car and wipe the flies out of your mouth. I don't want them splitting the lane with me at 35mph either and nor do I want CHP splitting the lane with me ... one unconscious or spontaneous jerk of my steering wheel and you idiots are dead, even at 35 mph, and I have to live with that.

I'd just as soon outlaw motorcycles on the roads, you showoffs are nuisance.
