Reatly? Kid Frost?
Actually the ones to rap it on wax were Black. BUT the influence came straight from Mexican cholos that goes back to the 1920's. The bandannas, Dickies, Ben Davis, Chuck Taylors, Lowrider cars, Gang hand signs and the style of the grafitti of the Bloods and Crips in southern California all came from the Cholos. And ofcourse this was infused in west coast gangster rap. Words like "Loc" = short for loco, Red and blue bandanna... Mexicans from northern califas and southern were wearing these wayyy before California even had a large Black population. If you look at the whole slang, Dress code, Vibe and overall style of Black gangbanging culture is HEAVILY influenced by west coast cholos. Like if you look back at the 1960's-1970's when the style of most Black drug dealers/gangs was like the rest of the country... Black Panther style/Disco dress code...Far from the creased up dickie suits and chuck taylors and pendletons that started to emerge in the 1980's when Crack was introduced in 1984. A lot of people like to think they idolized the Italian Mafia (Which is true to an extent) but the majority of it comes from oranization of the Mexican Mafia, Mexican Cartels and the Nuestra Familia etc. Before west coast gangster rap and movies blew up in the late 80's/early 90's the rest of the country was not dressing like this or using the slang and ofcourse the lowriders. All of that comes from the cholos who have been doing it for decades before anyone else. I am not calling the Blacks on the west copycats but I think people really need to think hard about the origins of all this and where it came from. A lot of Black gangbangers or just Blacks in general on the west know about it. So true the actual rap was not from Mexicans but the influence on the whole style of the west coast (Especially Los Angeles) rap can not be denied. I could go on and on about this.. Oh and ofcourse I can't forget about the "Ink" tatted ALL over the body or even the little tats on the back on ones hand, Yes this came from cholos especially in the California Prison system and also Texas and Arizona. And not just Blacks but also Whites and Asians too. Think about that the next time you see someone tatted up wearing dickies with Chucks and a bandanna on and think real hard to yourself "Where did this really originate from?"
