It's only been a year but it seems at the sign of difficult times it's time to start looking for another job. Well you have shown what you are made of and the town is much better off without YOU.

In the ADN he was saying that he enjoys 99% of the job and the other 1% hasn't killed him yet. However, his commitments were getting between him and his family. Now I can see how that could be - but surely as the top man he could delegate to the 'excellent staff' he says that he has working for him? It's called management and it's a way of developing the people he has working for him. How did he balance the work when he was at Hinton (plus at least an hour and a half travel each day?) His explanation just doesn't sound convincing. PLUS he probably started looking at this job just before or just after Christmas, so if we take his explanation at face value, he knew the Anadarko job was getting too much for him back in the fall? Disappointing.

Bewildered- I completely agree with your opinion! I think when David took this job things were coasting along just fine because the former city manager had a surplus of 1.7 million dollars and there were no big issues going on. David gives all the city employees at least a 2.00 hr raise and to compound things the water and sewer lines have become a mess. He is in way over his head and apparently isn't a problem solver.
I think he did the city a favor by leaving and hopefully the next person will have the moxie to handle the job.
It will be interesting to see an audit of how much money the city has now.

OK folks, there are a lot of assumptions and innuendos but I doubt that there is any substance to these claims. Everyone has a right to better his position especially if it will improve his family environment and his kids schooling. How do you know that David did not do a great job for Anadarko? Sounds like your a bunch of coffee table gossipers who make all sorts of assumptions and turn these into slander. I say give me proof or shut up! I think that Kingfisher may prosper under their new leadership and of course we lose a man whom no one gave a fair shake.

Positive Note- Time will tell but I'm guessing Dave will be out of Kingfisher within a yr if the town has encounters any problems! Kingfisher is already prospering and that's why Dave wants this job. He's walking away from a crisis to a job that is on cruise control. His skill set obviously isn't geared for this type of management. He hides behind his little facebook page in the wake of any problems voiced.
Can you tell me what slander has been stated?

Positive Note - Please remember that it is Dave who is walking away from the the job. How is this someone not 'giving him a fair shake'? If anything, its' Dave Slezickey not giving Anadarko a fair shake.

Unless you have some inside information, it would be slander to state that "he isn't geared for this type of management" or "he hides" or "he is way in over his head" or "apparently he isn't a problem solver". To be honest hasn't he been working to solve the water and sewer line problem? You don't really think that he was the cause of the problem. And if the problem manifests itself, it is his job to get people motivated to fix it. Isn't that what he has done? And it is dangerous innuendo to state "were coasting along just fine because the former city manager had a surplus of 1.7 million dollars" and " will be interesting to see an audit of how much money the city has now" and "Kingfisher is already prospering and that's why Dave wants this job" all implying that he carelessly depleted city funding. Of which there is no proof to back these innuendos.

That would be my opinion not slander. We can agree to disagree. It's obvious that you don't expect much from a city manager and hopefully our city doesn't have more people like you with low expectations.
Time will should give us a good indication of my remarks about Dave. Please don't be shy to show up here and admit you were wrong when this happens.

You have a right to your opinion. So is it your opinion that the City is in a chaotic state? How would you go about fixing it?

By finding a City Manager who is qualified and is up to the challenges of the task. One that isn't afraid of facing public criticism, one who has a clue how to work with big problems such as the sewer and water lines. The patch job sewer lines downtown have been ongoing for over 6 months now with NO progress. Dave has also voiced he isn't comfortable showing up with his family at public events because people are upset with him. Did he ever consider this job wasn't a popularity contest? Our town is lucky he is leaving so the next manager can make some progress and not hide in their little fairy tale world where everything is perfect.

wow....looks like i've missed a lot on here.

as far as dave goes. i am proud to know the man. he took our national guard to afghanistan, and brought them all home and for that he will have my undying thanks. having spoken at length with him...he has my respect.

as far as the city of anadarko is concerned....i do wish that he had given us more of a chance. with the way things are or are not printed in the adn how are we supposed know anything. i didn't know he was having a difficult time here.

me? i don't know what we need anymore. sometimes to look around town its so depressing. i would hope that something changes soon.

I don't have anything personal against Dave.

Don't know if you can really blame Dave for the current situation. It may be something that will take time to resolve. Some problems can't be resolved quickly. Spit in one hand and wish in the other and see which gets the fullest. There are a lot of different factors involved. Funding, permits, workload, etc. I am not convinced that Dave wasn't making progress as fast as progress could be made under the current circumstances.
just wondering

Positive note...ask Hinton why he left there...and didn't move his family there...then ask yourself this...if he plans to take the job at Kingfisher seriously...why was his wife rehired for another school year (published this week). Rumor is she doesn't plan to leave Anadarko and heard about his accepting the Kingfisher position when it broke in the press with everyone else. My guess is that Kingfisher is a stepping stone that offered more money than he was getting in Anadarko...and he needs another year to find a position that is where he is really looking to settle. When he doesn't move to Kingfisher within a year and informs you he is resigning, don't be surprised. When he applied to Anadarko he went on about his wife teaching here the last 18 years and how he has set down roots in Anadarko and intended on raising his family in Anadarko. Apparantly you can believe what he tells you.

Kingfisher does NOT have a position for his wife and they could NOT promise such. Don't fool yourself into thinking this job or the next is a stepping stone of opportunity for Dave. Dave aims in any direction to avoid confrontation or challenges. As a father he doesn't show up for his son's soccer games because he is afraid of the people. SPINELESS
Anadarko is going in a better direction each day closer that Dave leaving as a so called manager.

DJ - I don't have it before me, but I THINK DS was due to start at KF sometime in mid May. I've not seen anything in the ADN yet about meetings to interview applicants - and Kingfisher took 6 weeks to make the same decision when they appointed Dave.(see the Kingfisher article)

Seems like the City MIGHT be dragging their feet.

I know that it's all conjecture, but perhaps you may have something there!

My bad!

ADN reports the City Council interviewed Carl D Brown of Watonga and Brian J Redshaw on Monday night. Can't find any mention of Mr. Brown on Google, but Mr Redshaw appears to have 30 years experience of City Government having held positions in six states (Iowa, Wisconsin, Colorado, Kansas, Indiana and latterly Minnesota).- If I have the wrong person - apologies!
