Hi, I just found your Post regarding Bryants Marina. The Anacortes facilty closed up in the early 70's. My dad ran Bryants Seattle until he retired in 1985. Bryants Marina closed all the boat building facilities in the early 70's and went strictly wholesale, selling Evinrude products and Starcraft boats. We used to travel to Anacortes in the late 50's and launch from the Bryant facility there, traveling into the SanJuans. We shot advertising film for Bryant manufactured boats. That film was shown for several years at the local Bryant boat show.(Later to become the Seattle Boat Show). What was your Dads name..?

I've recently purchased a 16ft Bryant cabin cruiser 1965. Found in Skagit County in very nice cond. I haven't found any support online. I lived in Anacortes and remember Bryant's unique lift. Feedback?

Hello Harry,
Grew up in Bothell, WA. Family owns since new, a 1958 Bryant 21 ft cabin cruiser. Fiberglass cabin, wooden everywhere else. Has been a long process trying to get back in the water. Would appreciate any history/info/resources on Bryant's. My Dad (81) still lives in Bothell and would absolutely love to talk boats with your Dad. bsybees@msn.com

I too am seeking Bryant owners just to put a list together. I'm in the middle of a Bryant restoration of their cabin cruiser 17'. I have 50+ years in wood boats if restoration help is wanted. I too remember my family launching at Bryant's at the foot of Commercial Avenue in Anacortes. Any Bryant info please forward: swallowdale@isomedia.com

As a high school and college student, I worked as a dockboy at Bryants in the late 60's. My girlfriend, now wife, worked there some in admin. Mac McGlenn was a a manager at the time; his son Russell was a good friend.

WOW what a small world! I was looking for info on a Marina where we had to boats built. Charlie Bryant was the one who sold us the 28 foot open bow door "Raider" rear cabin landing craft and a 37 foot salage barge we named the retreiver. I sat threw the amazing build of the raider and stayed a couple of days with Charlie at his house along what I remember as a slough or a small inlet. I would love to get in touch with a family member to shoot the bull with. I was 15 years old and that would have been 1975. We ran in the new engines and headed them for Skagway Alaska. Any Bryant family members?,,,,I would love to talk to you. I remember Charlie having kids,,,maybe you are that kid? I'm 50 now. I sure have good memories of that place. Any old employees remember painting the cartoon "Snoopy" on his dog house? That was our charter boats signature was "Snoopy" on every boat. I would love to hear from anyone who knew this family or anyone who worked at Bryants and remembers these boats.

In fact we moved in 1974. June 14th if I'm not badly mistaken. And Dad (Darrell Franks, Sr.) was known as "Sparks" in the shop. He did radar work but mostly worked on radios. When The Wild Goose- John Waynes boat was in Seattle for the duration of a movie shoot my dad was sent to fix the radio systems. I remember he got a big kick out of that.

Funny what you can find on the internet! My father (Bill Bryant) helped build the marina for his brother Jerry Bryant who was one of the founders of Bryant's Marina. I have the book that tells the story of the Bryant Corporation and yes there are still family members of Jerry's around the Seattle area. I remember the days of the marina (early 60's) and the Bryant boats. I am not sure who Charlie Bryant was. Guess I need to get the book out and read it again.

as you said- funny and amazing what we find on the internet- My first boat was a 16' Bryant Mahogany finished runabout with a 25HP Johnson I bought at Advance Outboard on Eastlake in 1965. Great memories. I remember cutting school at Meany Junior High borrowing 3 other 6gal gas tanks and going through the locks to Whidbey Island and back. Kind of a Tom Sawyer adventurer in my Bryant.
I moored the boat next to the Queen City yacht club.

My Dad, Everett Johnson worked in the Yard at Bryant's Marine at Lake Union until the U of W took over the property and the facility closed. Some of the names I remember a couple names - Harold Radke, Charley Ziska, Dick Taylor and an elderly man named Dave that lived in a small boat house (or perhaps it was a boat??) on the premises and watched over the place. During a promotion,'Captain Puget' was suppose to Skipper a stern wheeler, giving rides to customers & their kids. My Dad had a license to pilot a vessel up to 77 tons displacement with passengers so he had to operate 'The Lollipop' and I [at 11 years old] manned the bow line while 'Captain Puget' signed pictures for the public [I still have mine!]. It was a great day! I remember, as a kid in Maple Leaf Grade School in N. Seattle, when we were each asked to share with the class, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" The kids said stuff like, a doctor, a lawyer, a fireman, a policeman, a nurse, etc.. I wowed the teacher when I said, "I want to work in the Yard at Bryant's Marine, with my Dad"
