We were walk-ons on the Saturday ferry leaving Keystone to Port Townsand.Because of the winds, the ferry was shut down at the late afternoon sailing. We were stranded in Port Townsand over night. No lodging was available and we were told that the ferry terminal would be locked and all of us were on the streets to fend for ourselves. Families with children had no where to go and no food because everything closed. After talking to the local city police,we were again told that we were all on our own. There were about 50-60 people. The attitude of the ferry personel was unreal.A young lady,Katy, at the sporting goods store helped us to get a room to share and was gracious enough to drive us to her friends home for the night. We were so concerned about the others who were not so fortunate. We found out later that the stranded folks were allowed to return to the ferry and had a safe place to stay.It was unreal that no plan was in place to deal with this emergancy. We have been to Port Townsand many times and always took out of town guests there but would never do this again. If we had our vehicle there, we would have stayed the night in it. But being a walk on,this was not available to us. Never again! I cannot believe that a town that relys on the tourist trade would have such little concern for those who have made this trip, to be treated in this manner. We felt so bad for families with small children. I think there were many of us that felt this was one place we would never visit again!
