I agree the world would be alot better off if we didn't have people promoting profanity.

Seriously, are you trying to compare a persons right to sell what they please to school shootings? I have been to Shadow's Domain, and yes, they appeal to the Gothic crowd, but the people who visit this store also use it as a way to release. The people who go and shoot up schools don't know how to release, so they bottle it up.
Instead of seeing this, though, you only see something that YOU feel is undesirable, then try to compare it to something completely different in an attempt to soil its name. This is no different than calling Arabs terrorists because a few Arabs actually were terrorists. It is a person's right as a US citizen to "promote" whatever they want, if they wanted, they could convert it into a sex store and put up a sign that says "No one under 18 allowed", and there isn't a DAMN thing you could do about it. If you don't like the store, THEN DON'T GO! |

I agree with Matt.
And besides, what do you mean by "profanity"? Isn't that a really general term? If you don't like the stuff, don't go there, but don't protest its existence. The people who own that store have the right to sell whatever they want. Just because you have conservative values and think that the stuff there is "profanity", doesn't mean that everyone in the community thinks that way. |

So, be a little more specific with your complaint. Exactly what types of items do they sell in this store?

The Shaddow Domain isn't truely a Pagan store, a "Gothic" crowd does not denote it's paganism.(Gothic isn't a religion, it's a statement) I have been to both the Shaddow domain and Hot Topics( in the mall) and there is very little difference between them, yeah there are some pagan things in both, and Gothic items, but I haven't seen protesters at either. And neither one is breaking any laws.

According to the Encarta Dictionary; English(North America)
Pagan/Paganism: 1. an offensive term that deliberately insults somebody who does not acknowledge the God of the Bible, Torah, or Koran. Gothic: 1. a member of ancient Germanic people 2. somebody uncivilized 3. musical style 4. style of cloths and make-up A style of fashion, popular among men & women in the 1980’s, characterized by black cloths, heavy silver jewelry, black eye makeup & lipstick, & occasionally pale face makeup. 5. follower of goth music and fashion Neither Paganism nor Goth condone violence in malls or school campuses. Paganism denotes those of any faith other than Christianity, the Jewish faith or Islam. That would include Buddism, Bahai', Mormon, Wiccan... This country is based on freedom of religion & freedom of speech. I have never been to the store mentioned but as a mall store owner in the bible belt of TN I can say that mall management has strict quidelines as to what is allopwed to be sold in the mall. If they're selling it-it must be ok. If you don't like a stores merchandise or policies shop elswhere. That's where freedom of choice comes in. |

1 I must say, I'm happy to see that most people responding to this forum seem to be happy, well balanced, accepting people. I would like to make a couple of points. One, there is a reason that I do not choose to make my store part of a "mall" and stay in my quiet little corner. This gives me much more freedom to do as I please. I, and my customers, like it that way. Plus, my store is located in the building that housed the first Catholic church in Idaho Falls over 100 years ago. I just love this building and it's history. Two, most people that worry about what I'm doing at Shaddow Domain change their minds when they visit. It's no exaggeration to say that we have the most diverse crowd of probably any store in the area. We are non-judgemental, and carry a very wide variety of what many would consider sub-culture items. It's not unusual to see a group of "goths" and a group of businessmen in the store at the same time, and they are all having a great time! That having been said, some of my items may be objectionable to some, I sell gay pride items, wiccan and pagan items, goth items, and yes, some of my wares sport a naughty word or two. But I can say with great pride that I've never grabbed people from the street and dragged them into the store against their will. And more often than not, once they visit, they come back, because it's just a fun place to shop. |

1 You see the were brought to belive the mormon church is the only church in the world. There for when some one with a open mind, able to think for themselves, opens a business of the alternitve live style,,, the 'natives' all freak out. If the same store was to open in Salt lake, and yes there such store down there, the natives leave them alone. So come on Idaho Falls, why are you Scared? |

1 I also have to say that there are good and bad in all religions, or any grouping of people for that matter. I know many very opened mind Mormons, and I know some Pagans that could use a little tolerance. If you must judge people, at least judge them individually on their own merits and shortcomings, and not as groups. |

That is the best thing about freedom of speech. People need to be more accepting of others and things would be much better for everyone. Keep going strong Shaddow Domain - Julie.
