This is more common than one would think. I have had two bad incidents with Park Animal hospital. The first didn't raise a red flag as I know sometimes "things happen". The second, however, was quite different. I brought my Black Lab, Chester, down to see what could be done as he was having difficulty walking, although he was still very much able to do so.
I get called to pick him up and they wouldn't even let me see my own companion until I paid them first! Then and only then was I even allowed to see him! Chester, who walked in under his own power, I now had to carry out as he was now entirely able to get up.
I brought him immediately down to the center for specialized veterinarian care (I think that's the official title of the place, although I may be wrong), located on Cantiague Rock Road. While he was in the "care" of Dr Jane Sparacino, he suffered a broken disk in his neck. I did everything I could, and he underwent a disk removal surgery, at the total cost of over $10,000. I stayed with Chester the entire time, except to shower at the on-site facilities, slept on the floor with him, watched movies together, etc... I ultimately had no choice but to have him put to sleep when he developed aspirational pneumonia. I was heartbroken and it still brings me to tears 8 years later.
Spare yourself the heartache and do your research, people! If you can, find a holistic vet as they tend to be more about the actual health and well-being of your pet. Most traditional vets just want to prescribe or operate and inflate the bill as much as possible. We need to get the word out as much as possible about the bad vets.
Many people aren't aware of the danger and toxicity of common vet treatments such as flea dips, heartworm medication, rimadyl, etc... Ask questions, do research, speak with patients. Our animal companions would do anything for us. We can do no less!
