Hi all. I don't usually post comments on message boards like this but after reading the above stuff... wow. Anyway. This is James Gilks (owner of SerialKillerCalendar.com and editor of Serial Killer Magazine). It's my business to be an expert in this kind of stuff and as someone who has researched the subject from every angle AND talked to just about everyone involved (including all the actors who have ever played "Leatherface") I can tell you that the character of Leatherface (in all versions of TCM is NOT a real person. In fact, we had a huge article about this in an issue of Serial Killer Magazine. Tobe Hooper has said millions of times that Leatherface and the family are based on a number of sources. Leatherface himself is based mostly on Ed Gein (simply because of the skin mask, cannibalism and household items made from bodies). That said, the family is based (in part) on a cannibal family from Scotland that killed over 200 years ago (The Bean Family). So please, please, will you all just quit trying to say that your Uncles, Cousins, neighbors, friend saw the mug shot of the guy that was in the cell beside the real Leatherface. HE IS A FICTIONAL CHARACTER! If ANYONE at all can find any kind of actual tangible evidence that anything remotely resembling this family ever existed then I will buy it off them for a crap load of money. If not, then please kindly shut up and go write fan mail to the Easter bunny.
