Not every store in this mall is losing money. i will say this one reason this mall is not growing is because people are spending their money in other malls and shopping centers. if you can shop at crocker park, great northern, southpark, etc. but return your items at midway without ever shopping here because it's too ghetto your a hypocrite and a liar especially when people are bringing their items from corporate store to corporate store they all carry the same items. if you value your community put effort into it if you want the mall to change than spend your money and effort in the kind of shops you would like to see other business' see this and decide whether or not to move locations there based on how other "like shops" are faring in those locations so if your mad that theres only one of this kind of store don't get too mad it's the consumers fault. there is more to it than hey lets just open three stores there when others just like them are failing thats a lost business venture the mall needs to bring customers in but customers also have to be willing to come back to that locale.
im not to sure what your talking about but something has to change or there wont be a mall

Midway Mall is major "GHETTO!" I do not care to shop with the the thugs and there nasty mouths. There will never be anything nice in Elyria while the white trash and ghetto blacks go there. I think maybe they should put just one more middle eastern store in the mall. I don't think we have enough of those. I could careless if Midway closed. I would miss Bestbuy, but I shop on-line to avoid going to the "hood" to shop.

Actually, I haven't been to the mall in years. I shop online a lot and go other places when I do go "out" to shop. I've been hearing there are a bunch of little thugs out there for years. And, let's face it, the kids aren't the ones with the disposable income. And, now that our glorious politicians and manufacturers have screwed the Americans out of their jobs, there's no money for the mall's inflated prices.Just like a nice line of dominoes...knock one down, the rest follow. Get rid of some good-paying jobs = get rid of frivolous shopping. Welcome to America! The next third world!!
And, in terms of the welfare moms...no, I don't like paying for their shopping spree, but I hate welfare freeloaders wherEVER they shop but there will always be sludge at the bottom of ANY barrel.
If you haven't been to the mall in years then you have no room to talk of what you do not know for sure. Its all hear-say for you. Also shipping jobs across the ocean is not necessarily the #1 problem either, you may think it is since you haven't gathered EVER piece of information. To be honest I am willing to bet you only got information on people losing their jobs, then you just blurted out what you felt rather then sat down and researched it. Also the fact that jobs are being outsourced DEFINETLY won't be the leading cause of America being third world. Welcome to intelligence you should immerse yourself in study before you even decide to open your mouth or type a thought on what you only have a portion of the knowledge for.

I grew up in Lorain and am there frequently visiting. I was shocked by the "clientele" that was there. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Malls are too overpriced and I'm not going to pay extra to put myself in jeopardy

The mall is dying...let's face it. I worked at Kaufmann's for six years. It is a very small store compared to the other stores, now Macy's. It all has to do with median income. The median income in this region will not support higher-end stores such as Dillard's and a larger Macy's. Look at Great Northern, it has no problem with filling it's mall and getting the buisness. Everything is moving to Avon. Why???? Because people in that area can afford to shop at nice places.
Yes, people steal everywhere, but the clientele dictates what kind of stores will come in. Midway has always had a lower-end clientele. Why do you think when May co. was originally built in 1990, it was so small compared to Great Northern and other locations?
Of course, the restaurants are booming because everyone likes to eat, no matter what socio-economic level.
But personally, I don't like going to a mall full of thugs and pregant teens. I have a right to my opinion and where I want to shop. The clientele needs to clean itself up!

You are so right!!! It wasn't always ghetto. People want to just blame jobs. I blame it also on the quality of people. I don't want to see it close, however. The clientele has also pushed tenants out of the mall and also has pushed shoppers away.

I do go to walmart, as a matter of fact, but that is totally different than a mall. Why do people throw wal mart into the mix? When I go to a mall, I would like to find things other than a mall full of shoe stores and phone stores and thugs. It's a babysitter for parents. You can't compare walmart to the mall. I go to Great Northern and the clientele is a lot different. I'm not going to shop at Midway if there's nowhere there to shop!

The last time I went to Midway Mall, I was a Senior at Avon Lake High School in 1982, and it was falling apart back then. I remember as a young kid in the 70's how nice Midway Mall was. By the mid-80's it was a dump and I started doing most of my mall shopping at Great Northern until I moved out of Ohio in 1986. I'm still surprised that Midway Mall is still standing.

I've worked in the mall for over 2 years now. Since I've been there, at least ten stores have been closed. I hear rumors all the time that it involves high rent. McDonald's was an example. But high rent isn’t just it, and neither is consumer’s income. I'm studying the field of marketing and have noticed that people like to shop at strip malls once again. They like the convenience of parking, choosing, and pick up. The mall involves people having to navigate through to get to the stores they want. That’s why Crocker Park and the Avon Commons have been doing so good; not to mention the brand new feel to it. The mall needs variety. tannersgold2005, you are right about the different stores that need to come in. A baby store would be awesome, but it would have to be affordable. The cell phone and jewelry stores are too much right now but seem to be the only thing really making it. Dillard’s is supposedly leaving in May, and that makes even more empty space and possibly more rent raising to other stores for the owners to pay the mortgage on the mall itself. I can see most of your views on this issue and if nothing gets done about it, there will be no good shopping places in Elyria except for Wal-Mart.
I don't care if you're studying marketing. Common SENSE should tell you that if people are out of work or earing HALF the money they USED to earn when we had work in this nation and in this town, the expendable income is less. You HAVE learned about expendable income, haven't you?

You're studying marketing...I'm sorry, but BIG DEAL. Study LIFE. Live it for a while and then come back and tell me in twenty years how little you knew now.

If the jobs aren't THERE or people earn half as much...simple common sense...any ten year old could tell you they wouldn't be SHOPPING as much.

Here is what it comes down to people keep putting crap(Dem. Grace) in charge of this town do research of Ohio. The area's that a building up and the ones dying you will see one thing in common. The broke dting towns have been in the (democraps) control for the past 10 or more years
Now that being said dont think i support all republicans lately most of them been crap too. If you are able to get a good republican in here i willing to bet it would turn around within the next 5-7 years

Did it ever dawn on you that the mall might be struggling because people (like you) are shopping online?
