WalMart is not really good for anyone. It ruins local economies.

I too don't like paying high prices for consumer goods, but the profits of WalMart are not necessarily re-injected into community-economies.

Its the circulation of money that makes economies boom.

and!

There is no gurantee that the products sold in WalMart stores was not manufactured through sweatshop labour.

Lastly, WalMarts look hideous.

Wal Mart is bad for Asia just for the same reason it is bad for its employees. They treat their Asian contractors & vendors just as badly as their employees. They want everything for nothing.

This stinginess comes from the wealthiest family in the World.

what the philippines need is manufacturing business (production) not retail industry... filipinos are already cash-starved and yet tricked to spend some more for products mostly made in china...

The Philippines needs a retail industry that lowers the cost to consumers. Retail products are overpriced in the Philippines as the ruling retail Oligarchy makes huge profits.

All the previous posters are from NA. Wal-Mart isn't going to Asia to sell anything. They only use Asians for cheap labour & cheap goods. If & when there's any retail business they want to pursue in Asia it'll be because Asians have lifted themselves out of the cycle that's got them in their grip right now. By that time it'll be too late for Wal-Mart. This is their golden age. Henry Ford had it right. Pay your people a decent wage so they can afford the product you make. Wal-Mart is too absorbed by the short sighted view that shareholders & family are all that matters.

First off, none of you is in asia, so I gotta ask, what do you know? There is a walmart in my town, which, in spite of the false info Toxic lists, is not Beijing. There is also a Carafour, french. To my great embarrassment, the french store is far superior to the American. I went in, expecting to see good old, same old, Walmart. Instead they'd thrown out the concept, keeping only the name. It was little more than a large collection of the same little shops lining every shopping street, with the endless repetition of the same 10 items. Absolutely no reason to ever go there

Way to go Bob... The Academy of Rocket Science misses you. Just what I said. Wal-Mart doesn't get Asia & it never will. You don't have to be from Asia to figure that out.

There were 2 wal-mart stores in Indonesia in 1997, both have closed, some idiot vandals looted wal-mart, now wal-mart has gone and Carrefour from france take control, so many of them destroying local department stores in almost all Indonesian big cities, selling “cheap quality products” actually it is not cheap at all, it only looks cheap because they sell the other products more expensive, and the product’s quality are lousy. We can get far better price and better quality from many small local stores but people are lazy to go to anywhere, they want one stop shopping.

I don't know if Wal Mart would be good for Asia. All I know is Target is bad for everywhere! They're far and away the most rotten retail outlet on the planet.

Target is just for those Americans who think they are too good to be seen shopping in a Walmart. You know middle-class snooty folks who prefer to pay an extra 10% for their Chinese-manufactured trinkets.

If you dont like it why dont you get out of the country. Thats always your response to me. You seem to not like Americans so why dont you come back here to the P.I. where according to you everything is great. You can get a great call center job and pay 3 times the amount for imported goods than what you pay in the states because the P.I. is too stupid to have free trade.

I always pick up an Igloo cooler from Wal-Mart when Im in the states for $30.00. The same cooler but less quality at SBMA $100.00. 100% import tax here and another 100% for corruption thats why imported goods here are so high and why they won't get a free trade agreement. The politicians cant skim off money.

My point is, the politicians dont want Filipino's to have spending power. More economic power you have the more political power you have and that is something they wont put up with.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Aquarius

This is another day when financial matters cause trouble, as Mars reverses in your seventh house. What started off as a minor niggle with a partner or an opponent yesterday could now escalate into a full-blown row, but at least this will give you the chance to get certain things out into the open. Legal issues from the past may become ugly. If you're pointing the finger of blame at someone, don't get so heated that you accuse them of everything under the sun.
