The article is accurate. DO NOT ATTEMPT to come in to Ames at all. It is virtually impossible to do so. You will not be able to get out either as most roads are either blocked by law enforcement or by city buses parked across the roads. The water IS RISING and many in Ames are not able to get out. Traffic heading south bound on I-35 will be blocked just after exit 113 south. Northbound is clear to come this way from Des Moines ( 11:33am CST ). This is a very bad flood. With more water expected to rise and rumors of more rain it will only get worse. The only way out is to head northbound I-35 about 40 miles to 20...go either west or east depending on what you want to do. There simply is no other way. Highway 30 east is now being shut down also unless you are a semi trailer driver....you will be allowed to pass...other than that the flooding is too high.

I trried to use the alternate I 35 route listed above. You can't get to it from north Ames. Don't even try. The trafic is a massive gridlock. Just stay home

And now for ANOTHER ROUND OF BAILOUTS!!! FEDERAL EMERGENCY DECLARATION!!! HELP US REBUILD IN A FLOODPLAIN!!!(AGAIN!)

I think the insurance companies are going to say they've had enough with paying out for repetitive billions of dollar claims. The gov't. can't be there in this economic climate! Any permits issued to rebuild in these notorious floodplains after this disaster should be accompanied by a cash deposit equal to the amount of a FUTURE LOSS.

Personally, here's an opportunity for a lot more "GREEN SPACE" projects; golf courses, ball diamonds, soccer fields, bike trails. Businesses and residents should no longer be allowed to reconstruct in these flood plains, plain & simple.

Amber I live in the same area. you can' get there from here right now. My son spent hours trying to get to the recomended alternate route to Des Moines. He just couldn't find a way to cross over to 35.

Yeah, let's just relocate the whole town of Ames, Iowa State University, etc! Why stop there, let's just do that everywhere else in America that ever has any problems. Whatever dude. Seriously, the towns & people affected by this don't need your criticism. Let's just build on hill tops and spread out infrastructure for miles further. Now you can talk about the government spending some money.
