Trust me it is a lot worse with the mega operations. I now have to go visit a business I consult in Mira Loma where there are still a lot of large dairy operations. It smells a lot more intense than my Grandparent's farms in Indiana. But then it is all subjective, if you are raised on a farm you take it in stride and find the industrial smells and smog of urban areas more offensive than the city dwellers who grew up with it.
I've got to agree. Spent a lot of time on farms in the mid-west as a kid. Once you get used to the smell, it really isn't all that bad. Very subjective...
Been around a few mega-operations. Actually, my cousin's property was bought up by one. It was part of my grand-parents farm at one time. The smell is pretty ripe. But, not as bad as some that I've been near.
There is an outfit in Colorado (Near Holyoke/Julesberg) that is 100-percent indoor. The place is run like a clean-room operation. Very little smell to the area. I'm sure its expensive as all get out to own/operate like that.
