Although it is sad about what happened to that kid, the only thing that can prevent it happening again is pedestrian education. I work near the ISU campus and watch near misses daily as pedestians just step out into the traffic. They do not use crosswalks, and cross against the lights. The pedestrians are the cause. they are the ones that need enforcement.

Pedestrians have the right of way, even if they make bonehead decisions.

so what if they have the right of way? They are going to be on the losing side of the accident. I agree with the first poster, especially near campus, Ive had many people just dart out in front of me. Right of way or not, they need to be more careful- we all know drivers arent careful enough- and that wont change.
