Bring Winco here

I guess the folks opposing Winco are from the unions. Otherwise, why would so many show up at a city council meeting? Why all the letters for the union stores? Are they aware that people in Benicia and American Canyon will come to Vallejo to shop? And while here, they may just visit other stores, helping to rebuild our city. Full Story

although the location is questionable, Winco, with it's lower prices will add some needed competition to the other stores in town, do you have a problem with lower prices ?

It's not going to happen, not with this council majority. This is not "the type" of business these people want. They want TJ's or some other upscale shopping experience that will NEVER happen in Vallejo because of the prevalent demographics and education levels.

I think the new majority has a problem with the masses of under-educated stocking our city. WinCo fits the needs of these masses but the new majority will choose to deny them even as they profess to represent ALL of Vallejo. What they WANT and what present day Vallejo is best SUITED FOR are at odds. I'll lay odds that most of the complainers about the dangers of WinCo rarely venture into that part of town. Traffic nightmare? Seems like the WalMart center in AmCan has plenty of people enduring the same traffic nightmare scare tactics. The lots are brimming, people spending. WalMart was not right for Vallejo a couple councils ago too.

I agree the deal is dead for WinCo at the Elks site and they don't want to be anywhere else. This rejection will foster the business unfriendly tone we have yet to fully overcome despite recent organizational improvements at city hall to facilitate new business. It's too bad for all of us in the long run.

how long have we been hearing about the "overpaid" public safety workers in a town where the median income is low, low, low? so now a grocery store well-suited for these low, low, low income consumers is about to be rejected because of various "concerns". that will be the operative word as they sink it 4-2, "concerns". this town is freaking crazy, unbelievably, people organizing to drive another business away and council members getting on the bandwagon.

Agreed - for too long Businesses have called the shots here AND it shows in crappy city planning of our neighborhoods. How about we develop a City Plan and then be ready to direct companies to areas that will best serve the residents of our community ... not rocket science here, folks.

As long as these business entities ride into town and tell us where they will locate - we know we've already lost! Fire the Planning Commission to send a message and lets start over - the system is broken and I'm sick of the same people having the same arguments over and over.

LNG's done, Walmart's done, and now Winco is done - get over it. Vallejo is better off for kicking them all to the curb.

as for actual ideas, I can't say that I ever agree with even one of the hundreds of posts by 'the oz'.

tee wee hee ... oops, jump on it oz
