What is exactly going on with Roseland Ranch? There has been a rumor that is closing down because of poor management. Is this true?

What ever happened to the original owners, Chickie and Sonny? Did they sell it to someone who now can't make a go of it?
I went to Roseland many moons ago, when I was a kid with my family. It was a blast, and I'm so sorry to hear of it's closing. I only hope that the next person who buy the rance, can make it what it once was.

yes Chicky sold it about 2 years ago. There is a group of owners now, not just one. I think they are not interested in putting any money into it to make it a better place. They really wanted to build homes on the acres that the trail rides went through. I dont think things went the way they wanted to.

Chickie sold the ranch 2 years ago and unfortunately the new owners didn't have what it took to run a family resort the way the Fichera's did. Unfortunately, Sonny passed away a few years ago. We still love you Sonny...RIP

There are still a handful of horses that need a home. At least two of them I know would be free. If you are interested e-mail horseloversNY@yahoo.com. Also, if you have any pictures you'd like to share send them and I can put them all up on a group album. Or any stories bout the ranch or any of the horses.

We booked our trip last September and they called us in January to cancel our May 2008 visit telling us that they were closed for the season and couldn't honor our reservation - then they told us after a few more phone calls that they in fact closed down - I do hope they refund us !!

Hi my family owned Roseland Ranch for 48 years and we had our ups an downs but we were together and we loved every minute. i sang, danced, ate, worked as hard as I could and meet many people some even crazzier than i was but my family loved every miniute.
My children were born and grew up at the Ranch and learned how to ride, ski , swim, socialize with the guests, ride snowmobiles and four wheelers not to mention skeet and rifle shooting.
On rainy days
I myself miss the Ranch, after all those years i'm not quite sure what i'm suppose to be doing now.
well maybe i'll write a book about my life at the Ranch.
Unfortunately, my brother Sonny died about 2 years ago.
well my family still lives in Stanfordville, ny.
Take care everybody and wait for that book, it should be a best seller.

Hi Chickie,
All though I never met you I must express my greates sympathy to you and your family about the ranch. This must be really sad to go through. I started visiting the ranch under new management and always heard from other guests how much better it was while you were running it. I've heard about a family that visited around Thanksgiving every year for 25 years but after the last time they said "they would never come back again". The land is beautiful, horses and barn stuff was always helpful and nice. I enjoyed every minute of freedom I got there. I am only sorry - based on what people told me - that you gave it up. You should take it back and revive it once again, I'd come and visit.

I am so sorry to hear that the ranch is closed. It's a terrible shame. I've been going to Roseland for years. It's one of my favorite places! I've always had the most amazing times there. I went as a child with my parents and later with my husband. I miss the ranch! Chickie, you did a fantastic job with it and we miss you! I am interested in finding out what happened to the horses...we grew very attached over the years. Especially to Coda, Indian, Winchester, InSinc, and Bonaza. If anyone could offer some information as to where they are or if they may still be for sale, please answer this comment. Thank you so much.

Koda and Winchester went to some ladies who are friends and they are both doing very well. Indian went to just be a retired pasture buddy with 8 other of the roseland horses and 2 of the ponies about 25 miles from the ranch. Ray from the barn also went there to live. Nsnyc and Bonanza went upstate with 3 other horses to do a horse camp and lesson program and when they retire they will be turned out there just to be horses. ALL the horses went to wonderful homes. There are still a few for sale but they are no longer kept at Roseland. We have them at our place to resell.

Thank you very much for the info. I really loved the ranch and the horses there. I'm glad to hear that they have good homes. I wish I had known they were for sale...I would've bought Koda in a heartbeat. Thanks again.

I took them just before he left. I volunteered at the ranch and stuck it out with a friend until the end with the horses and the great barn manager. I cried when Koda left. Hugged him and I'd like to believe he hugged me back (wrapped his neck around mine). Such a sweet guy he was my little cuddle buddy, like a troll under the bridge, you couldn't pass him without a big hugg and a kiss on the nose. I miss him a lot, he was a very good boy! We get updates, and I am happy to say he is doing very well :)
