Get outta' here - You get into a deal that you can't afford by gambling on who knows what, and now you want saved. Not by my tax dollars, you don't. Irresponsibility should not be rewarded, let the market fix this, Let the lenders take their lumps and let the borrowers realize that the contracts that they signed actually mean something.

This whole thing is STUPID!

there is alot of blame to go around for this mess but conveniently the person who signed the loan papers is left out of the mix. These people wanted "in" on this deal so bad they didn't care what kind of loan they signed because they thought if they could just hang in there a few months with the payments that they could flip it and make big money.
these people are not only in a bind because of their homes but credit cards, automobiles, etc. They are the irresponsible spenders who are up to their eyes
in debt. The media would have us believe that these
poor people all lost their jobs or had unexpected medical bills and now cannot pay their debt. When in reality alot of these people make good money just choose to spend it all and save none and unfortunately we will "all go down with them"
NO to my tax dollars bailing these people out and
the Bear Stearn and banks should figure it out for themselves too. Too many people with their hands out!!

There's no blame here - it's a contract - with the terms clearly spelled out. The lender got his "deal", and if he can't follow through, then the bank has the collateral that they needed to write the paper in the first place. Again, let the market sort this out, it's none of the government's business. All the government needs to do is make sure that the interest deductions on the income tax is properly allowed for, nothing more, nothing less.
