With a little tinkering, this supports the Biblical flood. Hmmm... No, this explains why the story of the flood was created. Hmmm... No, this just gives folks who are polarized on the issues of creation vs. evolution, God vs. atheism, etc. something new to bicker about.
A better discussion: Imagine having only 2000 other people in the world with whom to "mate!" Of course, only approximately half are of the preferred gender (if you're hetero or homo); many may be too old or too young, etc. Talk about slim pickin's!

Not long ago some asteroids hit Jupiter with stunning effects. This was captured by telescopes.
One asteroid a fraction of the size of the smallest that struck Jupiter, would end all so-called intelligent life, as we know it, on earth.
This is a fascinating glimpse into our past, and I welcome future discoveries....
Good on it...

Human race only about 50,000 years old?*whew!* that's a relief. I've been told that I'm older than dirt, so I guess I'm not that old after all.

As for the 50,000 number, when you're that old, what's another twenty-eight and a half percent older? Men and women have been fudging their age by that much SINCE 70,000 years ago. My daddy lied about his age by 10% to get into the Army - Some 16 year olds have lied about being 21 to get beer - that's a 25% increase.

BUT - us creationists (not to be confused with Intelligent Design advocates) have said all along that the number crunchers have been fooled.

I am not sure where you study at but most people believe that the oldest known anatomically modern human lived from about 160,000 years ago ..........that is what the scientists are finding in their dig sites.

Maybe there really is such a thing as racial memory stamped into our genes. The proliferation of of "End of times" legends that exist cross-culturally would indicate something like that. Especially if the event was REALLY big, as suggested in the article...

We are close to extinction now.We are processing food to produce fuel for our vehicles. The so called savages in the jungles of the world will be the next generation of scientists that will be reseaching our civilized "inteligent" extinction.

I read the article hoping that it had new evidence as to why we were down to so few people. This bottlenecking of the population is not news, and droughts are not a new spin on this. What's interesting and not talked about in the article is that stemming from that population you get all of the diversity that we have today in such a short time and that we were able to span the globe with stone age materials.

I am amazed how slow this info has been to reach mainstream.I first came across this 2 to 3 years ago. There is just too much to know about the history of our existance and not yet enough hard evidence to give confident conclusions. but this is a step forward in our knowledge base.

Hmmmm. I guess if we wait a little longer they will find even earlier humans. Maybe we really DID walk with dinosaurs.

Slim Pickins was an actor, and a good one. Slim Whitman was the singer and appealed mostly to older people. Like 70s-90s older. His CDs were usually considered gag gifts to younger music fans.
